My Thoughts On Militant Atheism
RE: My Thoughts On Militant Atheism
This thread....

I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

You should not speak of that which you do not know of yourself.

The maturity of this forum is exactly what I had anticipated it to be, a lack of intellectual thought resides here. A lack of critical thinking, such was it in the case where JesusHChrist presented me with misinformation and I had to correct him.

We were also suffering from a lack of self-righteous assholes until you showed up. Thanks for filling in that gap.

At least he tried. Where have YOUR sources been, you hypocrite?

I expect your time will be wasted no matter where you go. That's a nearly universal experience for smarmy little pricks.

(September 16, 2014 at 11:41 pm)Celestine Wrote: I hope some of you will eventually understand the futility of militant atheism and stop wasting your time as well when it could be used for better purposes.

I hope you will eventually understand the futility of behaving like an ass and expecting to not be treated like one.

(September 16, 2014 at 11:41 pm)Celestine Wrote: I never said not to question religion, as all things should be questioned. I just believe that it should be done in a mature and respectful manner.

Yet you can't bring yourself to model the behavior you're trying to demand from us. As I said: hypocrite.

(September 16, 2014 at 11:50 pm)Celestine Wrote: ridicule then your own treatment of others. If you were truly concerned about wanting to have an intellectual discussion with someone on religion you would know that people are not well receptive to being said that they are wrong, least of all having their thoughts called stupid, ignorant, or the like.

Yet, that is the tack you choose to take with us.

(September 16, 2014 at 11:41 pm)Celestine Wrote: When I came here you even posted a indecent picture of the muslim prophet, how well do you think the muslims would see that?

The better question is 'how should they see it?' There are plenty of Muslims who don't think nonMuslims have to abide by their rules.

(September 16, 2014 at 11:41 pm)Celestine Wrote: Do you think that posting such pictures would change their minds?

Seems unlikely to reach more Muslims than post on this atheism forum. Hopefully it will help to desensitize the ones who do hang out here. Did any Muslims object?

(September 16, 2014 at 11:41 pm)Celestine Wrote: Or do you think that it would enrage them to see you being so disrespectful? How can you expect disrespect to change their minds?

Toleration of disrespect is exactly what someone who is enraged by it needs to learn. We all need to learn how to handle conflict like grown-ups at some point if we are to have a civilized society.

(September 16, 2014 at 11:41 pm)Celestine Wrote: You ought to feel shame for the way you have acted, I have seen children that acted more mature than what I have seen on this forum.

I don't blaspheme Mohammed myself, but no one should refrain from exercising their free speech right of satire, PARTICULARLY if the group being satired is likely to react with rage. Rage is an inappropriate response, and that button needs to be pressed until it's worn smooth.

(September 16, 2014 at 11:41 pm)Celestine Wrote: What is wrong with adding gasoline to the fire? By militant I mean the utter lack of respect and maturity offered by either side in a discussion.

Yet, religion has declined in America more in the last 15 years than in the previous twenty when we were assiduously minding our own business. Seems like the change in tactics has been effective to me, using your quaint conflation of 'militant' with 'outspoken'.

Keep reading, I was able to calmly discuss with others why they were being so hostile with me. I am trying to change my ways accordingly but please realize that this does not happen overnight. I apologize for insulting you, even though I did not intend to. I had come here with good intentions, but I presented them wrongly. A lesson to be learned for myself.

And as a rational and critical thinker you would think you would not let your emotions cloud your judgment on being called wrong, instead a rational and critical thinker would review his policy accordingly, instead of name calling or insulting others.

That would come across as a little more persuasive without the petulant, whiny rants.

Are you one of those morons who think they're not being insulting if they don't call someone a name?

When have you not insulted everyone here? You don't seem to be capable of making a post that isn't either insulting or self-aggrandizing.

More amused than insulted Celestine, again, you're going to need to save those apologies for the folks you're "defending".

There was a point where I have called someone naive, and multiple times where I've hinted at the majority of you lacking the amount of intelligence you claim to have. Perhaps I was wrong to say those things, but I don't consider those very insulting.

That's because a horse's ass isn't qualified to evaluate what other's might think is insulting.

Anyway... I'm going to read the remaining 13 pages of this thread and will... come back.

Oh, almost forgot: Welcome aboard, I see you're already having fun! Wink

I think he realizes that if he defined what he was talking about rigorously, he wouldn't be able to be offensive to all of us simultaneously, which is the real reason he's here. If he posted a reasonable defintion, a lot of us might go 'Oh, that's not me he's talking about then', and lose interest. And lost interest is lost attention.

Are atheists now killing each other over who doesn't believe in god more or are atheists forming militias and killing religious people?

An actual example of a militant atheist would be Stalin and many of his supporters.

We've been so inoffensive and meek in the decades since Stalin's heyday that now 'atheist militancy' is being outspoken in your opinions concerning religion.

You know how it goes: militant religionists bomb things, militant atheists write books and hang out at Starbucks.

Oooh, that looks like fun.

All I see is a bunch of AKs though. Would it be cool if I brought my M4? No need for any firearm snobbery! We are atheists first!

Proposed Agenda:

1. Shoot at Jesus
2. Shoot at Mohamed
3. Shoot at Allah
4. Lunch
5. Shoot at the Ghost (that sum bitch is hard to hit, being indivisible and all)
6. Shoot at Yahweh
7. Shoot at <Guest's Choice of God> -- I would pick one o' them Indian fellers with the multiple hands, heads or whatever the hell. One point per appendage.
8. Drinkin'
9. Forneecatin'
10. Drive home

No worries, people get off on the wrong foot sometimes, happens to all of us at some point, I reckon. I'm glad I kept reading.
