Oh come on... they are facts from history... wake up my friend!

This is what my problem is, yes we had crusades, and crucifixions etc, but we are in the 21st century.... and it doesn't happen... Christianity is now happy clappy, whereas Islam is still murderous !

You are a fucking idiot if you think the underlying nature of Christianity has changed. Only the outward expression of these nature have been kept precariously in check by secular forces which hard core Christians never stopped to malign and seek to overthrow.

In fact, many Christians sees a struggle against Islam as the very thing to give Christianity an opportunity to overthrow the secular forces that made the west slightly more enlightened, and to become once again more brutal and repressive than Islam, and this time without Islam for competition.

Well with all your information that we don't have you are a very rude person.... don't cuss me in this context !

For the info we have, Islam is the actively aggressive religion, and Christianity is a benign faith. Feel free to share facts before mouthing off!

Okay this in no way a defense of Islam and I feel like Islam is the biggest threat to overall human happiness and to freedom of speech/expression on the planet today. However you are just factually wrong when it comes to the idea that there are no Christian terrorists today. Even most people on the boards when they think of Christian terrorism normally think of the largely inactive IRA or the extremely rare abortion clinic bombing. I think both you and they would benifit largely from thinking about areas in the world that are not part of the western world. Africa, for example, is full of Christian terrorists. There Christian militant groups who do horrific crimes against humanity. It has minimal affect on us here in the west, so we tend not to think about them very much but it has monstrous and horrible consequences on those in the region and the motives of those people are very much steeped in their Christian ideology.

I agree that the crusades and such are poor examples but they are examples that are given from people who have a western mindset and don't really look at news or are aware of events in the third world. Keep in mind also that the third world is most of the world. In fact we here in the comfy western world at the exception to the norm, not the norm itself.

Quote:From Fox News to the Weekly Standard, neoconservatives have tried to paint terrorism as a largely or exclusively Islamic phenomenon. Their message of Islamophobia has been repeated many times since the George W. Bush era: Islam is inherently violent, Christianity is inherently peaceful, and there is no such thing as a Christian terrorist or a white male terrorist. But the facts don’t bear that out.

My two cents, nobody gets a pass on any of it. Do peoples religious affiliations seem to mold their actions, of course. Can that lead to terrorism, yup. But I really don't give a shit whether it's muslim terrorism or christian terrorism or fucking jain terrorism (now -that- would be a good story). What does bother me, is the head in the sand routine when we point to one -specific- group and make excuses for the others (or pretend they don't exist). I think Cap pointed out something very important in this regard but I wanted to add that even though we don;t have the sorts of groups that 3rd world countries have - we do...still..have our homegrown christian terrorists (as well as other type, of course).
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Your being an atheist doesn't grant you immunity from poorly thought out positions.

There's nothing poor about my position... the whole tenet is based on the burden of proof...

All of the arguments above are fabricated in mens' minds!
