I think it is funny how we are doing really anything to this country on the account we have no political or economic power. While some of us are "lazy", I feel we have a lot riding against us.

The credit for ruining the country goes to my tribe, upper middle aged white guys. No group has ever done as much damage, in as short a time, to virtually everything, and to nearly everyone who isn't an upper middle aged white guy, as we have. I am completely incensed, almost angry even, that someone would try to steal the glory for all we have accomplished in trashing the world and putting the very survival of the species at risk, all while touting what god fearing, industrious, self-made successes we are.

Should Millennials of the white and male persuasion lift themselves up by their own bootstraps and keep their women in line; should they ensure those with darker skin continue to quietly do the labor needed to run this great country while enjoying few of the benefits we, ourselves, enjoy; and should they continue to burn through the limited resources of the earth with little regard for the future; they can join the elite, become a middle aged white guy, and carry our traditions of ruining the world into the next generation. Just as we picked up the baton from our Fathers, and they from their Fathers before them.

Should they raise to the challenge millennials may get to share in the credit of ruining the country and the world, but it will take a better effort than just living in their parent's home for a few extra years. There are still forests to burn down, people to oppress, women's and civil rights to be walked back, elections to be rigged, drugs to be rushed to market and sold to the unwary, weapons of mass destruction to be built, and drone wars to fight. But they will have to step up, for my generation of middle aged white guys has set the bar of ruin at a lofty height.

And for those who think that a Barack Obama is the foil to my claim, that middle aged white guys don't get all the credit, remember this; President Obama is half-white. I'll admit he is a little young yet, but the damage he can do as an ex-president is still considerable, and I think he is getting the hang of it.

To hell with this country. I wouldn't mind if we were to collapse and be forced start anew. I'm guessing neither would most of the world population. Although whatever replaced it would probably suck too.

Generation x maybe. . . But I'm raising high schoolers right now. My kids have a work week as bad as mine was when I practiced law in a large firm. Their school day starts at 7:30 and ends at 2:30 with a half hour lunch. They have about three to four hours of homework on average. That's ten to eleven hour days. And yes they get summers off. But you can't say they aren't getting a work ethic. I wish less of the homework was make-work. My eldest actually has less homework now that she's taking all AP classes senior year.

I'd like to see the young'uns get more involved, myself. I don't think things are too far gone to rescue, but I don't think apathy is any sort of answer, either.

I believe we did try that, it was the occupy movement. What we got was government plants and corporate plants to delegitimize the movement. Spotlighting stupid by the media to disrupt the message and apparently FBI involvement. I believe why the young people are so tired of trying, is because no one listens on a scale which change can actually occur.

Actually, I think it moved the dialogue in this country, and while it alienated some folks, I'm pretty sure they were far-right enough to have already marginalized themselves.

The country could use more of that. One spell of it certainly isn't going to change anything, but continued and voluble use of the right to free speech has to be made ... while it's still possible.
