A rule has been instituted the the Australian federal parliament today that forces anyone wearing a burqa or similar garb to sit behind a glass screen if they wish to witness parliamentary sessions.

Of course the usual bleating from Muslim women has already started because they claim they are being treated as second class citizens.

But that is the essence of Islam, treating women as second class citizens. I would think they'd feel right at home.

The Bible isnt exactly filled with gender equality, either. Kinda makes me wonder, why did Islam cause the Middle East to decend into a misogynistic cesspool while Europe and the Americas embraced sufferage?

Jesus was a huge moderating force on the Old Testament. No such luck with Mohammed.

Because of nationalism during the enlightenment. You see between 1600-1900 was when scientific progress and the ideas of government by people along human rights began to really take off. During the majority of that period Europe was divided in to many nations that were in aconstant power struggle, that made the effective suppression of ideas far more difficult. During the same timeframe the entire muslim world was ruled by the ottoman caliphate, where there one government and no power struggle. Also unlike Christianity, Islam is also a political system at is core, making the seperation of church that is so necessary far more difficult.

Christianity is a more mature religion compared to Islam, and it's already dying off. Islam will soon follow.
