Christianity in America is so fucked up
October 2, 2014 at 9:41 am
(This post was last modified: October 2, 2014 at 9:41 am by FreeTony.)
Reading some of the comments of the American Christians on here, it really makes me sad for those of you that have to put up with it all.
In the UK Christianity is synonomous with kindness/love etc. It may be stupid, but at least the Christians here tend to be nice, and fairly tolerant people (certianly the ones I've met). The impression I get on here is that to them Christianity is just an excuse for many to act like stone age barbarians. Hatred and persecution of anyone who isn't like them, backed up with by a religion that tells them they are morally superior for doing so.
All the superstitious shit I find very annoying, but I can live with. Destroying the lives of others is another thing entirely. Removing rights of anyone who isn't a Christian male, impeding education and preventing science make peoples lives better. Then there is all the hypocrisy that goes with it. Rules about sex outside marriage, porn etc are ignored. We all are sinners means that anything can be excued. Actually this applies to Islam too where, for example, you can get married for a few hours to a prostitute (God is obviously too stupid to see through this).
I think there is also the extreme free market philosophy of the US, which actually ties in to religion and deeply affects it (and perhaps exacerbates it too). If you think that your brach of Christianity is the same as that elsewhere, and that background culture doesn't influence it then you are ignoring the obvious.
Any thoughts?
(disclaimer: Of course, this doesn't apply to all American Christians, and also applies to other countries and/or religions)

Deleting the hatred, persecution, barbarity, hypocrisy, and ignorance results in something that is no longer Christianity.
So I guess I don't get where you're going with this . . .

Delete those things from Christianity and there would be nothing left.

Not really, there are some far more tolerant versions of Christianity.
As with all religons, the doctrine is not set from some holy book, it is an adaptive thing based on tradition/culture and to a varying extent the secular culture around it.

I'm loathe to include the heretics, apostates and blasphemers with the Christians.
You should be too.

Insults during an internet debate? Oh really? THAT should count as hate and persecution?
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.
Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.
Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.
Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.
Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."

It's interesting that the quotes Huggy uses to highlight, I guess, atheist barbarity come from threads in which he goes to bat for (a) Biblical slavery and (b) Yahweh's wiping out virtually every form of life on Earth. But the mean old atheists swore and called him names! Oh, no!
Here's some more atheist barbarism for you, Huggy. Go fuck yourself.
