I started this thread as a comparison between branches of extreme Christianity in America, and the more liberal friendly versions of Christianity that exist elsewhere. I'm interested why this is, and I'm not sure why Atheists are being discussed.
Drich, your "intolerant of the intolerant" line that he's used on at least two threads now is particularly stupid*. Equating a group that causes physical/emotional harm to a minority group, with those that oppose this in a civilised way is not the same. It also has nothing to do with the topic.
* Almost as stupid as the Jesus "let him who is without sin, cast the first stone" line

In the UK Christianity is synonomous with kindness/love etc. It may be stupid, but at least the Christians here tend to be nice, and fairly tolerant people (certianly the ones I've met). The impression I get on here is that to them Christianity is just an excuse for many to act like stone age barbarians. Hatred and persecution of anyone who isn't like them, backed up with by a religion that tells them they are morally superior for doing so.
All the superstitious shit I find very annoying, but I can live with. Destroying the lives of others is another thing entirely. Removing rights of anyone who isn't a Christian male, impeding education and preventing science make peoples lives better. Then there is all the hypocrisy that goes with it. Rules about sex outside marriage, porn etc are ignored. We all are sinners means that anything can be excued. Actually this applies to Islam too where, for example, you can get married for a few hours to a prostitute (God is obviously too stupid to see through this).
I think there is also the extreme free market philosophy of the US, which actually ties in to religion and deeply affects it (and perhaps exacerbates it too). If you think that your brach of Christianity is the same as that elsewhere, and that background culture doesn't influence it then you are ignoring the obvious.
Any thoughts?
(disclaimer: Of course, this doesn't apply to all American Christians, and also applies to other countries and/or religions)
The problem is that the things that you are saying about christians in America don't apply to most christians in America. Another thing is that I could honestly say the same about people of any religion or non-religion. You're hypothesis simply isn't true in the first place. If I say something like "I'm against gay marriage", then you would say that I'm spreading hate and trying to deny people their rights. I just now read about a girl who was thrown out of the classroom because she said "God bless you" to another kid. I'm sure that the teacher was not a christian.

That could be true of most of the stories we read.

I would suggest that America is so fucked up because of Christianity. But I do agree with you, the American version of Christianity is particularly disgusting. I wonder if Christians in other countries look at the American Christians in much the same way that moderate Muslims look at ISIS?

so you are intollerant of whom youve deemed intollerant?
Where did your confused little mind find intolerance in that post?
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

Or quoting any PM?
If you'd care to actually read the rules, which are locked away and hidden underneath that link at the top labelled "Rules", you will see that there's nothing specific preventing you from posting private messages. However, you will be well advised to bear the following points in mind.
Firstly, the exchanges are intended to be private. Hence the clue in the name. You should check via PM with the other person involved whether they consent to having their messages published.
You should also be very sure that messages sent by staff to you were actually sent as part of their official capacity as members of staff and not simply as members of the forum. Failing to make this distinction clear will attract staff attention.
I refer you to Rule 14: Quoting others accurately. This is a straightforward thing to check when you're quoting a thread post and it doesn't require a member of staff to do it. Quoting from PM, however, is a different animal and will definitely attract the attention of staff. Be damn sure that what you intend to do is exactly what you think it is.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I'm sure you didn't bother to dig any deeper to find out the teacher's religion or the actual circumstances, you just swallowed the teenage girl's version whole because, Christian.
Was it an article by Todd Starnes, by any chance?
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
