Greetings from a Christian
October 5, 2014 at 10:32 am
I'm going to convert to Catholicism from Hinduism next year. I joined to see what made people atheists. I wanted to see what goes inside your minds. I don't mean to mock or convert.
For starters I'd like to ask you what did you dislike about Christianity (apart from the practitioners). I also would like to know about the questions you had in your mind when you left the faith of your ancestors. Perhaps I could give a shot at answering them? (Only if you wish)

Nothing makes people atheist. They are simply born that way. The question is, what makes people theist?

Ran out of reasons to believe.

Out of curiosity, why are you switching from hinduism to christianity? As far as I know, hinduism has better stories...
Why I left?
Because I actually read the books and decided I've grown attached to my sanity

I simply couldn't believe in a benevolent god that's all powerful and, yet, allows this much pain and suffering in the world.
I live on facebook. Come see me there.

Dislike is not the operative word, although I do dislike religions.
I don't believe in any gods because there is no evidence of any.
I can understand you leaving Hinduism behind; I don't understand the attraction of Catholicism - especially now.
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

What makes people atheist?
1) Lack of theist indoctrination
2) Education
3) Skepticism
4) Empiricism
5) Rationalism
6) Being able to accept that we don't know everything.
7) Understanding that wishful thinking does not change the real world.
There is no evidence of a god. None of the gods people have invented is particularly consistent or likely and most are fantastically unlikely.
Oh, and
Why do you no longer believe in Hinduism?
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
