Greetings from Genesis.

Greetings from Genesis.
Hi Folks,

I've decided to become an Athiest the fast way and go through Genesis. I have a word Document open and I am at Genesis 35. I have alot of questions 9 pages or 4,000 words lol. Not that I want my questions answered but to see how absurd some of things that are happening are.

Two glaring points that I think folks will find intresting.
Abraham gave Jacob, Issacs birth right because Abraham was dying Abraham was around 80 years old about this time and had supposidly a short period of time to live.
We then read that Jacob does a runner for 20 years then returns to Esau. Then the next thing we read is that Abraham dies at 180 years old.
So Abraham thought he was dying at 80 years old yet lived another century.
Also something is shining through from Genesis that God is only favourable to those in his 'Clique' And that when people see God etc.. Its always a one on one thing - We never hear of God appearing to the masses.

The fact that God is appearing to Abraham, Issaic, and Jacob and these people were also the same people who used deception on people in every place they travelled to is very intresting. E.g. can we trust people who were essentially liars.

What do you think??

Dunno. Do you trust fictional characters from other books?

Abraham was dumb enough to go to Egypt in the first place, and then he lied about his relationship to his wife in order to save his own skin. I guess one way Christians (such as Drich) try to rationalize this behavior is that since Moses hasn't established the law yet, lying wasn't yet considered to be a sin. Of course, this directly contradicts the biblical idea that Jahweh is an unchanging god. Indeed, these stories read much like the words in Tolkien's the Silmarillion, thus, fiction on a mythical scale.

Welcome!

Will you be doing the same exercise for all fictional literature?

Here's one

Kudos for the Silmarillion reference, and Clap for it being a perfect analogy. Big Grin

Well, Dumbledore has said some pretty darn good stuff for being a fictional character, so him I could almost trust Tongue

And monkeyman, welcome to AF! ^_^
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
