Trepanning is performed to relieve brain swelling.

Trepanning.

Thank you, I always spell that incorrectly.

And I bet you own a leech farm...

This...

...is a trephine, an instrument used in modern trepanning.  Doesn't look terribly medieval, does it?

Quote:They [leeches] are used to help restore circulation after microsurgery to reattach body parts.[41] Other clinical applications include varicose veins, muscle cramps, thrombophlebitis,[43] and osteoarthritis.[44][45]

Now you know who to go to with questions on 21st century medicine.  You're welcome.

Boru

Very cool. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirudin
I think I knew about that once, but had forgotten. They secrete something that attacks thrombin.

I’ll check with my chief leech-wrangler and get back to you.

Bit of trivia: if you get a leech on you, what should you do?

Remove it with a chainsaw?

No. That's if one gets on other people...

Nope, the ideal method is to leave it. It’ll finish feeding in a minute or two, then drop off on its own.

Mind you, that’s the ideal method. The ‘What To Do If There’s A Leech On Boru’ method involves a good deal more shrieking and flailing.

The worst thing about that programme was that it didn't last long enough.
