Now that that unpleasantness has been dealt with, we return you to your regularly scheduled forum, where your co-host CD will (hopefully) resume being the wisecracking smartass you know and love. Well, at least know and maybe don't hate too terribly much. Some of you must be keeping the torch and pitchfork wielding mobs at bay, yes?

My (technically unsophisticated) father trolls those assholes (even though his only idea of "trolling" involves a boat).
He might fall for the "Microsoft has detected a virus on your PC" scam except for the fact that he, until recently, had no internet and no PC.
Sadly, they've never called me. I'd love to keep them occupied for hours.

I think it speaks volumes about the tolerance of this forum and the reasonableness of the staff that this was a tough love break rather than a permanent boot up the arse.

You ought to hear my dad when they ring up. He winds them up something cruel. The longer they keep talking to one intractable customer, the less commission they're making.
I had a moment in the sun myself, back in the day. Some energy company coldcalled me and offered a special deal for switching to them. My immediate thought was the usual "here we go again", but as the call went on I became interested and thought it sounded a good deal. Since Sam was out and we always made joint decisions on matters concerning the both of us, I told the guy I was interested and I'd like to call back once Sam and I had discussed it. Then because he was after a pressure sale, he started the old "can't you make your own decisions" game. The more he went on, the less interested I became in being a customer until suddenly I cut him short and congratulated him on sucessfully talking himself out of a sale. I emailed a complaint about the guy to his head office, and I hope they played back the recording of the call - I'd love to have heard the "quality and training purposes" conversation about that one.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Also this one time, at band camp... sorry, I was channeling there. Anyway, once I got a cold call from some company or other. I let her go through her script for a bit, then when it got to my turn I said "I'm sorry but I don't have a 'phone."
"Oh, I'm sorry to bother you," she said and hung up.

I am fortunate enough to almost never get cold calls these days.

Bahaha! That's like opening the door and saying "I'm terribly sorry, but I'm not home right now". I should try that on some JW when they come by, just to see their faces.
The other day I once again got one of those calls. The caller woman was unusually aggressive and unnerved though. Without giving any info who she was calling for, she simply started asking me whether I had cable TV or some such. I kept replying "who are you", and she would simply answer, increasingly annoyed and in a commandeering voice like in a police interrogation "Don't you understand me? Do you have cable!". I again "who are you", and she again, slower this time "*Sigh* Let me try again. DO YOU HAVE CABLE". I've never seen anyone so ineptly sticking to their script, I almost felt bad for her. I wonder if they expressly forbade her to tell the name of the company she was working for.
