Passing comments;
I was unaware that science had discovered so much as one immutable law. I have also been under the impression that science does not posit the existence of such laws. I stand ready to be corrected in my misunderstanding of science. However, I have not the slightest interest in the religious doctrines of the matter.
'On the brink' Yeah right. Just as we have been on the brink of discovering cold fusion for ten years----for over 30 years.

Read Unweaving the Rainbow by Richard Dawkins. It seems to me that the entire book is a complete response to your objections about science.

Atheism, is coming across as an organized non-religion with many of the same attributes. Just saying...

L&L
To be an athiest means that you do not believe in god or gods.
There is no mass of dogma, no holy books, no athiest churches temples or cathedrals.
Just the ability to say no to question 'do you believe in god'.
I may be being a little short with you, but that is because you have the whiff of the 'theist in disguise' about you.
Just sayin.....
You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

You want something warm and fuzzy? Here you go:
![[Image: fsm.jpg]](https://images.weserv.nl/?url=i220.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd41%2Fpattywolfkiel%2Ffsm.jpg)
That works for me. Now, if you actually meant 'hardcore porn' I'm sure there are some charming websites out there for you to indulge in.
Quote:We put all of our faith in them, we solve problems and understand the universe because of our faith in numbers.
You have a poor grasp of the scientific method. We don't have faith in numbers, numbers are merely concepts. Now they are useful mathematical expressions for helping us investigate phenomena and acquiring new knowledge about reality, as the scientific method relies on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence. Numbers are not derived from, nor dependant upon faith.
Quote:So, what created momentum? I can't see it, or touch it or smell it... its invisible, but we must have faith in it or we would plunge into the sun right? I'm not trying to argue there is a god, I'm just asking questions...
Yes but inquiry is meaningless without investigation. You can't ask questions all the time without listening to people's answers. You need to understand what forces are demonstrably real and manifesting within reality in order to draw up any conclusions or observations about them. You need to satisfy your own standards of evidence, whatever they maybe.

@ LoveandLight
Contrary to your patronising little snipe, there's actually quite a lot of warm and fuzzy here offered to those who are liked and respected. Those things are earned, not a right. You have not earned either, but seem to be going out of your way to earn ridicule and contempt.
So far you have not been harshly or unjustly treated here, especially compared with the way Atheists tend to be treated on Christian forums.
The responses you've received have nothing to do with Atheism, and everything to do with your arrogance and willful ignorance.
Fortunately for you, I'm not a moderator. I'm a cranky old fart who does not suffer fools. If I had my way, theists would simply not be permitted on any atheist forum, as is the case with Atheist Nexus, the world's largest Atheist forum.

Got to disagree with you there Padriac. The reason Atheist Nexus sucks is because it's one big pat-eachother-on-the-back club, we need theists here for the debate.

OK we differ. It's academic now anyway. Atheist Nexus recently became registered as a non profit organisation. I didn't like the sound of that,so I left.
I agree that self righteous cretins seem disproportionately represented.

I didn't think they were the largest. I think http://atheistforums.com still has that title. What made you wary of their non-profit organisation status though? I'm on their advisory board, so I'd be most appreciative of any negative feedback we get over the whole thing.

I definately appreciate a more open community (like this) as opposed to a walled city where you're stockpiling your contempt.
edit : P.S. goodness knows religion has made enough of those, maybe that's why athesim is sometimes compared to a religion from a theist perspective.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
