RE: My issues with Atheism, Lets talk :)

@Adrian
Paranoid old age I guess. I no longer associate myself with any political or quasi political organisation, having had over 30 years of that.
My reasoning, flawed as it may be,is:
To obtain non profit status,I'm assuming the organisation must claim to be representative. Of whom and of what? It must also have some declared values and goals. What are they?
I'm assuming the flavour will be skeptical, scientific and humanist. (?) I don't object to that,in fact I support it. However, I object the use of the term 'Atheist' in the name. That gives the impression such an organisation represents atheism, which it does not.
I'm also concerned about it's political position. In my opinion neutrality is not an option.
Having you on a board is not encouraging for me as I seldom agree with your views. (no offence)
PLUS AN is also as boring as dog shit..
Atheist Nexus claims to be the largest Atheist form. It's far from the worst. In my opinion that honour goes to 'Raving Atheists' and its inmates. Most are simply obnoxious, but a few seem actually certifiable.

The goal of A|N has always been to connect atheists, and organise atheist groups / events in the world. The point of being non-profit would be so we could collect donations and have worldwide conferences, bringing people together.
I'm not sure where you get the impression A|N doesn't represent atheism, because it does, is as much as it only allows atheist members. You seem to be implying that A|N is claiming it represents *every* atheist and therefore cannot be a non-profit, but if this were true, how can any Christian charity exist? Of course there are differences of opinion, but it was my understanding that you don't have to be representative of all atheists, just the ones that are in your organisation to be non-profit.
A|N isn't a political group either, and it is neutral. Non-profits are forbidden from interfering with elections, although they are allowed to lobby in favour of certain decisions. The only decisions we'd lobby in favour for would be secular ones though, and I'm pretty sure every member of A|N would agree with those.
No offence taken. I'm well aware I'm probably the only far-right-winger (and probably the only right-winger) on the board of advisors. I'm part of the conservative atheists group on A|N and they only have 4 members
A|N hasn't claimed to be the largest atheist forum, but the largest social networking site. The A|N forum is less active than this one (from my observation), primarily because all the talking goes on in the events and groups.

Hahahaha! I guess I'm as confused as the poster of this thread because after all these years, I really don't understand why atheists bother to have their own forum to talk about "religion" at all. Or to even vent about a god they don't believe exists. Maybe someone can help explain the purpose of it all. Maybe like the poster of this thread implied, maybe it's a human trait that everybody needs to create something to justify their perspective.

We have our own forum for the same reasons Christians have their own forums, Muslims have their own forums, Conservatives have their own forums, Artists have their own forums, etc, etc.

Like the way I don't know why people have to ask questions like that to get an answer that's better than they already have

I'm actually concurring with this LoveandLight fella though. Science brings in so much order to our world that it makes you wonder where is it all coming from?
OR, are we just finding ways to make sense of it all in ways that we can understand?
Because otherwise, how the heck did order come from chaos?

Order? No way. At the very foundation of reality every event is simple probability.

That's exactly what we are trying to do, make sense of the bizarre universe we live in.

There is a whole field of study about just that, called Chaos Theory. There is a pretty good BBC Horizons doco you might like to watch:

But how did this probability become constant? Know what I mean?
Or like I said earlier, what if all this order is just our way of making things easier for us to get along but nothing really was in order?

The randomness is not constant....
We don't know why the quantum world is so chaotic and probabilistic, it just is. We don't know everything, that's no reason to assume a magic man did it.
