He was dead for three days. Otherwise, he wouldn't haven risen from the dead.

So there was no God for 3 days?

"Killing little children to demonstrate power is bad." What must ensue is a number of possible rationalizations, along the lines of "mysterious ways" or "must have been a good reason" or "some greater good" but I can promise you they'll all sound lame to the non-believer. My use of the word "bloodthirsty" stands.

Of course it sounds lame to a non-believer. As many times as I say this, it just goes over your heads. Those little children died in an instant. After that, no more suffering, just eternal happiness. Since you only believe in this world, to you he took away everything. We don't live primarily for this world. Of course we see things differently.

Quote:Where the OT god was a bloodthirsty sociopath, the NT god is barking insane.

He had to become his own son to sacrifice himself on a cross because doing so was the only way he could convince himself to forgive us.

Do you see how that seems crazy to a non-believer?

I can forgive others without killing myself. I assume you can as well. Why can't your god?

Yes. Of course I see why it seems crazy to a non-believer. We have different worldviews. The apostle Paul also recognized this fact:

1 Corinthians 1:23 New Living Translation (NLT): 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.

But when interpreting scripture correctly, you must realize that the human authors were writing from the point of view of believers.

There was a God, but you must embrace the concept of one God in three persons to grasp it. This concept is set forth in scripture. Jesus, the Son, was dead and rose to life after three days.

How can God be dead and not dead. "Embracing the concept of one God in three persons" seems like a giant handwaving and 'ta-da' magic to avoid the illogic of the whole situation. Unless you're saying the God can violate the laws of non-contradiction and identity, which a whole other bag of cans of worms.

Quote:pretty much even catholic priests know its not a sin.....

Yeah...but then they forgive each other and the archbishop moves them to a new parish.

Quite a scam the fuckers have worked out there.

God can violate any of the laws he established for the natural world. As far as the concept of the Trinity, I can't logically understand it either. If I didn't have any faith, I wouldn't be a christian either.
