I'll pray for you
I have publicly declared my atheism for the past two years. During that time my boss ( a product of BIOLA university ) is constantly telling me that his church prays for me. Does anyone else find this a little insulting? Why do I need praying for?

I like to pretend its their way of saying they care for you when it comes to family and loved ones. If my boss said it, I'd probably smile and say, good lord baby Jesus. But I'm a girl, and cute, and can get away with it ^_^

Can you say, "May the force be with you" while making the Vulcan hand symbol?
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Why are you bothered by a meaningless act, void of repercussions?

Or -- why are you bothered by someone's opinion of you? (because that's what "I'll pray for you" means, in this context).

Fvck 'em.

I tell folks down here "pray for who you want." I'm thinking of changing it to, "pray for those starving kids in Africa, they need it more".

Yes my church did the same with me when I left, it just makes me sick, they think their doing the right thing, but all they are is frightened little people. To them leaving the church is like someone disappearing into the evil word, away from their sanctuary of protection, this is frightening to most of them, and praying is all they know how to handle the situation, poor things.

Simple answer. Because in their minds your not a christian and going to hell. In truth though? Because your boss needs some kind of psychological defense mechanism when faced with a non believer. In truth there are worse defense mechanisms chirstians employ, and while in your mind it may seem insulting, its a weird way of saying they care about you.
