My point wasn't that working for a better world for future generations is bad, but that empathy and compassion are above the survival of our species. I used this in a context of being the last man on earth with another woman and making the decision to not rape her. I think it's the best call. Obviously I'm not against working to improve our survival odds as long as it doesn't conflict with fundamental human rights.
The argument of improving our species and survival needs to be handled carefully because it has been used to propose eugenic measures.

Do the christians here know she was actually the second woman ever? I wonder if they have ever investigated far enough to find that out. There's you homework christians!

There are different schools of interpretation, depending on how you read the first two books of Genesis.
There are those who believe that the first chapter dealt with the creation of the "pre-Adamite" humans. Note that man and woman was created at the same time in chapter 1 while Yahweh apparently didn't think to create woman until after creating the other animals and plants in chapter 2. Some Christians resolve this contradiction by claiming that there were two separate "creations" and Cain went to live among the pre-Adamites of chapter 1.
Of course, the scriptural problem with this theology are legion but I need to get back to work so I won't worry about preaching to the choir on that one.

Ah well, yeah. I wasn't even talking about that genesis bodge up! I was referring to the other named woman who came first but got axed :p
