Is it really politically correct to say Happy Holidays, or is it just being polite?

If I am greeting someone that I know is Christian, I'll say "Merry Christmas," but if I do not know, I'll say "Happy Holidays." There are multiple holidays within a short time celebrated by a wide range of faiths, and I think "Happy Holidays" is the most appropriate for the sake of generality. Christians (not all, but a vocal minority) seem to be the only ones that get offended when you don't greet them by recognizing their specific holy day. It's not enough that we wish them well. They require that we wish them well AND acknowledge that it's a special time of the year for little baby Jesus, ignoring that it's an important time to others as well. It reminds me very much of the fact that the god of the bible COMMANDS that we love him more than anything else, and only after we do that are we to love everyone else too. ME ME ME ME ME!!!

I consider "Merry Christmas" an expression of the joy people have in their heart because of a very specific holiday, Christmas, and their desire to spread that joy, the Christmas spirit. Happy Holidays means the person tacitly accepts a walk on eggs culture that kills honesty and masks genuine sentiment with vapid euphemisms. If you don't believe in Christmas then say, "Have a Nice Day" and live honestly.

But if they do believe in Christmas as much as the next guy, and also acknowledge that there are other winter solstice holidays, then Happy Holidays is an all inclusive greeting that covers everybody.

Saying the right words is important to them. That's why worshiping the right god is more important than being a good person. If you break the least of these commandments, you will be called least in heaven, but you have to worship Yahweh to even get into heaven.

The thing is you being 'polite' to everyone except Christians, our beliefs, our traditions, and our holiday. what's more you have taken a day we have adopted to celibrate the birth of Christ, and devalued it. You take the tradition commericialize it and strip all of it's meaning. What other religion can soceity take a sacred day from, takes it's key elements/practices and discard the rest while going through the motions/rituals, and it not be mocked?

What key elements/practices does Christmas have that weren't already stolen from the pagans? Besides, nobody is stopping you from celebrating Christmas however the hell you like. If they wanted Jesus' birthday to be more special, they shouldn't have moved it to the winter solstice in order to help convert all the other groups that celebrated at the same time. You want to complain about devaluing Christmas by not specifically saying Merry Christmas? That goes both ways, you know. You need to learn to share.
