A new set of commandments...

For the same reason you would obey any other unenforceable moral strictures, because they are good in and of themselves. Should you disagree with them, you won't abide by them.

So far the above appear better than the originals particularly better than these:

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

That's not an answer.

Good according to whom?

What if I can find a larger group of people who do not believe these 'commands' to be good?

But maybe you are getting the idea why I'm not much interested in obeying the 10 commandments just because.

Though shalt not kill, murder, or bear false witness against my neighbor on the other hand I have no problem with. Which of the commandments proposed above do you have a problem with?

Who told you you should obey any commandment? Don't you have your own moral standards that you can trust aside from commandments?

Crowd-sourcing morality is not a wise move, in my opinion.

Okaaay, we now have a 5304:3253 majority for "burn the witch" and "free beer", so let's get on with it!
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Not the tangent I expect this thread to go off on !!!!

A bit like me asking "you're on a desert Island, what three things would you take with you?"

A. You're not putting me on a desert Island
A. Why not 5 things?
A. What if it's just rock?
