Best Atheist Books

RE: Best Atheist Books
Has anyone read "Godless"? It's written by a former evangelical preacher who is now a leading atheist. I just started reading it. Very interesting so far.
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

I own it. I haven't gotten around to reading it though. I have a few atheist books that I have not actually read. Not out of lack of desire, but I tend to want to read more books than I have time. I'm still trying to finish up Carl Sagan's Demon Haunted World, soooo close to the finish. Only a couple chatpers left.

Plus I've been trying to read Shadowmarch by Tad Williams and Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind.

Of course once The White Road by Lynn Flewelling comes out, I will shut myself in a room till it's done.

Priorities my friends, priorities.

Fanatsy books > atheist books.

I' ve just read "50 Reasons people give for believing in a god." It was well written and gets points accross without being condesending or antagonistic.
Did I make a good point? thumbs up Smile I cant help it I'm a Kudos whore. P.S. Jesus is a MYTH.

Nice list of books there AngelaRachnid, I actually knew Bart Erhman personally when I used to work of Oxford University Press here in New York. I had some nice discussions with him and he from time to time would ask me what I thought of his latest book if he knew that I had read it.

I'd have to say that 'Small gods' by Terry Pratchett although a story book, dissects religion wonderfully in an easily digestable and entertaining way.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

To quote Monty Python " you lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, bastard" Worship (large)

Haven't read the latest Erhman, but from what I gather it supports/repeats most of the stuff in the "Was jesus a pagan god" book.

Lost Scriptures has the piece in it where someone else posted up "who made god?" (sorry cannot find it), which tells all about gods lineage and his mum Sophia? (not read it in a long time) and it reads like something out of the Silmarillion ROFLOL

Mind block or hanover or because of the other, I cannot think of other books to recomend could that be a section on the site? a list of books with members comments/ratings? just a thought
