RE: Atheist simulator

Thunderfoot attempts to reason with similar Christian arguments. Don't watch too long or your head might explode.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Yeah that one is really tragic. If you replace Hovind with a tape on a loop, it would play out pretty much the same.

I watched the whole thing before and have never been the same since.

Quote:4) Theism means believing there is 1 or more gods. So there could be 1, 2, 3... And so on forever.
Quote:The probability of there being just one then is one in infinity. Which is zero. So there is zero chance that there is only one God, so any monotheism is wrong.

That's actually an improper argument because for the second statement to be true the first one has to imply that gods are represented by a uniformly distributed random variable (and a continious one to be exact). This isn't something one can prove.

Theoretically not true. Something can, and probably did, come from nothing.

Or everything that doesn't exist... see above.

This is a linguistic fallacy, 'God has ...' does not mean sole possession of. More than one person can have knowledge.

This is another fallacy. '1 or more gods' depending on your religion. I don't know of a religion that has an infinite number of gods, they all have a defined number which can be added together and a sum established, if one was so inclined. Even if one religion had an infinite number of gods that would not make monotheists 'wrong'.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

I feel stupider for the questions being asked. If you'd replaced Howind with the Springfield pervert soundboard it might have been more challenging.

RE: Atheist simulator
I see there have been some objections to my logic. So to continue the atheist simulator, I shall clarify my position taking into account the feedback:

The thing you have to realise is that something can't come from nothing. So anything that exists has always existed in some form. The universe exists, so must always have existed. Therefore God didn't create the universe.

You need to understand that the universe is everything that exists. God exists, so God is in the universe. If God created the universe, he created himself. So he didn't exist before he created himself. So he can't have created himself and doesn't exist.

It's obvious that God has all the knowledge of the universe. Therefore, there is no knowledge left for me. But I have knowledge, so there can't be a god.

I define true Theism as believing there is 1 or more gods. So there could be 1, 2, 3... And so on forever. The probability of there being just one then is one in infinity. Which is zero. So there is zero chance that there is only one God, so any monotheism is wrong.

I hope it's all clear now, and that it gives you an idea what it feels like being on the atheist side.

I'm happy to continue the debate if there are any more objections, or else I'll assume I have won.

If you are wondering what on earth I'm trying to prove, check out the Hovind video posted earlier Smile

Again Im not saying all theists are like this, but I've experienced more than enough to try and demonstrate the problem.

I hate when people thinking they're smart try to be stupid. It makes me want to stoop to their level.
