The last survey I saw from Pew Forum showed that all denominations were shrinking except for Pentecostal and Catholic, and young people are more likely to identify as a "none".
I have wondered if the decrease of Christianity in Europe might give clues about the future in the US. Of course the internet didn't exist when this happened in Europe.
Maybe Christians will gravitate towards neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and universities that are majority Christian? Maybe Christians will flock to churches that immerse them in activities, services, etc.?
its going to die....off in the U.S....

I have read that the center of gravity of Christianity is moving south (mostly due to Africa).

That's been happening for a long time. Sometime while I was still forced to go to church, i.e. 30 plus years ago, the African Lutheran population surpassed the U.S. and European Lutheran population combined, or at least so said very pleased missionaries.

Hopefully christianity will decline to the point that everyone who could possibly be save does get save, thus signifying that the "cup of man's iniquity runs over." Thus enraging God to the point where He says: "Enough!" Calls for the scroll containing the seven seals, and starts working His way through them, sometime in our life time, just so I can post "I told you a-holes so!"
But, seriously. The Church is the ONLY thing standing between most of you and the wrath of God... So do be too quick to celebrate its end.

I'm more worried about what is standing between me and the people that believe that stuff you wrote.

You should really try to understand that the vast majority of us overcame our fear of the boogeyman before reaching puberty.

Cato you have to understand the stupidity and ignorance of bronze age thinking still lingers in the minds of people who believe the bible to be true. same goes with young earth creationists and flat earth believers. It is a mind set so badly ingrained on people its not even funny as the people who are doing it just need t stop. The religious need to be re-educated.

I used to think this way; however, education alone won't solve the problem. Jerry Coyne recently posted his thoughts on the matter:
http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/...the-facts/
Coyne sites surveys that indicate that a third of Americans don't believe that they can simultaneously believe in God and evolution. This figure hasn't changed substantially in over 30 years. Coyne's conclusion:
Quote:Of course I favor telling Americans what evolution is and giving them the evidence for it. I do it all the time as I continue to lecture and talk on the radio about the evidence for evolution. But I’m also pretty sure that so long as the U.S. is the world’s most religious First World nation, the acceptance of our message will be blocked by faith.
