The highly symbolic work of Revelation still conforms with the idea of Hell as the absence of the Lord. Since the Lord is Divine Love and Wisdom, then Hell is a 'place', or state of being, where these qualities are absent. The infernal fires of hell are the burning lusts and rage of those who prefer their sin over the contentment and bliss of righteousness.
I understand that you read the Bible as allegory. These others don't, and my point is for them, specifically Drich, who says that there is no Biblical justification for the vision of Hell as fiery torment.
There clearly is, as was pointed out, and the fact of the matter is that you choose to interpret the Bible as allegory. Others choose to view it literally.
You've rounded the corners a little so that your faith doesn't scratch reality so harshly, but that's not going to spare you the criticism of other sects who believe you're hell-bound ... so, did you want the aisle seat, or the window seat?

Thanks, Drich, I forgot about Nicodemus, or rather, forgot that he was a pharisee. You're quite right, and I should have checked first before relying on my creaky memory.

The problem isn't your documentation. The problem is that having the documentation doesn't prove anything. People get better from serious ailments all the time, regardless of their religion or lack thereof. You don't need to prove your anecdotes are true. You need to prove that your anecdotes mean something if they ARE true.

It might be helpful to separate empathy from sympathy here. For purposes of the conversation, how about empathy being the ability to understand someone else's point of view, especially emotionally; and sympathy being sharing their feelings: they're sad, so you're sad too, like that.

Lord willing if things keep going the way they are I will be able to bring people here if it will help them. I don't mind sharing anything, I just don't want personal info on the Internet.

what speaks to truth like nothing I can say or do is when these things are playing out in your own life. Again the things I share is what it took for me to establish and maintain a relationship with God, it is supposed to mean very little to anyone else, why? Because God wants to do the same for all of us.
Not to keep beating the same drum, but that is why it is SOOO Important to keep Knocking. God in our trials will wash away our broken understandings of Him and if we keep knocking we will build a correct picture of Him. One that He can support, and then one day your eyes Will Open, and Your ears Will Hear what has been i front of you this whole time.

I get what and why people say or think what they do (most of the time.) perhaps I will start outlining what they are saying and then address those points.

This coming from the guy that just employed the "I'm rubber, you're glue" defense. Classic! Or was it more like "I know what you are, but what am I?".

Don't be patronising. Godschild would never do anything so mundane as "I'm rubber, you're glue".
He'd say "your glue".
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

You're new to this thinking stuff, I know, but even you should have been able to see the flaw in your reply. I'm not sure how to break the news to you, but adults have, or had, parents, too.
My dad died in 2009, at the age of seventy; I was 43 at the time. And you wouldn't make a pimple on his ass ... son.

Being 43 doesn't make you a man but I have no doubt that your dad was a good man. By the way you act, it's you who wouldn't be able to be that pimple. Once again though, you play the child's game of my dad is bigger than you.

PS. Sorry for your loss, I know how hard it is to lose your father, dad passed away in 2000 He was 86.

Good to see that you spelled all the words properly, even though you misapplied the concept of grammar to it. Did you have help?
