Drink drive limit change in Scotland

Drink drive limit change in Scotland
For those in the Uk, what do people think?
Changing the limit from 80 ming baums per 100 fillymags of blood to 50 means absolutely nothing.

People don't know what the limit is scientifically, but it's up to that little machine, so changing the level means nothing.

Just say "if you go to the pub, don't drink alcohol".. I manage to do it !!!
PS if you're about to post a reply and your response is going to be negative, improper, average, odd, obtuse, irrational, an argument, might change the focus, going off at a tangent or just mean ... go and find a maths forum to post on instead, they'll love you !!

Actually, it will make a difference. Previously, if the cops tested you at 79, they had to let you go. Now they can get you off the road, hopefully before you kill someone.

Ahem *cough* *cough*

I guess I will have to hunt down my favorite sexy Scottish scientist (aka Noodly1) and ask him to translate the OP for me?

I have heard several arguments recently for making the limit zero mg .... a fine idea, but it can't be done, how do you define zero... if I have a drink on Monday there will be some alcohol still in my blood on Wednesday, it may be 0.1mg... but it's not zero, I believe some people have a small amount in their blood naturally, so again a zero limit is not practical.

As for the question "if you go to the pub, don't drink alcohol"

Then why go?
How about, to have a nice evening with friends? You don't need to drink to have fun (but it can help if you are not the one driving home)

Yeah thanks again for stating the obvious.

Point I'm trying to make is the units used....

As a drinker, I know three things:
The number of pints I've had, the strength of that drink, and the resulting number of alcoholic units I've consumed.

Yet the police measure none of those, they measure the number of milligrams of alcohol in my blood.

So, I have no access to my blood, nor a device to check my breath or blood.

So I have no correlation between the amount I drink and the no. of milligrams of alcohol I put into my blood. Plus, it varies wildly depending on when I drank the drink, how big I am etc etc.

So changing it from 80 to 50 way well be a good thing overall, but it really is the wrong message because it still says "you can still drink a bit and drive, but not as much as before"!!

absolute nonsense in my book!

Why don't you just buy a breathalyzer?

It would be great if the cars had sensors to see if the driver was sober enough to drive, else it could call a cab or a tow-truck.

But no matter what, unless people wise-up as a whole, there is no 100% solution.
