I don't know what road this thread has taken(I don't have the stomach for another thirteen pages of Drich inspired conversation), but as the OP pointed out, it's important to separate the message from the messenger. Now, the messengers in this case can be about as offensive as humanly possible, but I've heard a lot of people claim that the message itself is something to be revered. I agree that there can be some decent lessons in Christianity, but you have to milk the bible really hard to get to them. The problem lies in the fact that the true message of Christianity is to lower your intellectual standards and to not rigorously try to understand whether or not the whole concept makes sense or not. No good can ever come from that that couldn't also be achieved with higher standards. Christianity sets the bar so low and then attempts to present that as acceptable. That is what I find offensive.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Drich, you're conflating two different sets of conditions in order to justify the indefensible. But yeah, you are the guy who wished AIDS on people here, right? It all makes sense ... Christian good will in action here. "Slavery is morally good, and I hope you get AIDS. Me, I'm going to Heaven."
Is it any wonder Christianity is losing headway? Is it any wonder that "men of god" turn out to be pedophiles?
You are the face of modern Christianity, Drich; and it is exceedingly ugly.

Also Buddhism is better. <- because they are actually nice people who never wish harm on others and follow a more moral guideline than what christianity has.

Hmm. Could it be the bit about us being created as God's playthings and threatened with eternal torment if we don't acquiesce his adolescent cravings to be constantly attended and loved? Could it be the part about human sacrifice and virgin blood purifying the sins of those most gullible among our species? Could it the insulting illogic?

As ole Ernie wrote -- isn't it pretty to think so?

Whenever you find anyone claiming to be in possession of The Truth, you should be wary. They are but one or two steps from forcing that Truth upon you, via government action or gunpowder persuasion.

All to suck up to a book I wouldn't use as toilet paper.
Quick question, what would have to be in the bible before you stopped defending it? How far would god have to go?
I certainly agree with your first line. Anyone who honestly thinks working in a sweatshop is the same as plantation slavery is either ignorant or deliberately lying, and that's not very nice. (It is very christian, though.)
I am amused, amazed, and somewhat frightened by christians who post in Internet forums. A lot of them seem rather nasty and I sure wouldn't want to interact with them in real life.

"Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it."
-- poss. attr. André Gide.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
