Apple and Iphone - full of Ishit.

I liked the first iPhones, they were sleek, and had some seriously sexy presentation.

Since.... was it the IOS 4 or... 5? I don't know... but one of them threw away that gorgeous sleekness and replaced it with a trashy design it has retained since... damn software looks like its aesthetic was drawn by a five year old.

... Mac, well... it's expensive, and you cant really fix it if it breaks... and somewhat older models had a pretty nice blend of intuitive filing and being really easy on the eyes (dashboard is amazing).

Now... they're way to into that "x number of fingers performing y motion does z!" thing. and it fucks with all the shit.

I know that makes me something of a hypocrite, as I'm well aware many things I have bought will have gone this route. I try and buy ethically made products where I can, in general. I don't always succeed.
I admire your noble effort. My thought is always, "What difference will it make to them?" As far as I can tell, none at all.

The whole notion of 'brand loyalty' going beyond liking a product to where someone feels the would incur the wrath of the faithful is so bizarre and frankly deeply worrying for the human race.

I have always said that manipulating people's psychology in advertising should be as illegal as manipulating peoples biology or body chemistry is. A lot of my friends have unbelievable levels of debt, not just mortgages and bank loans but store credit, deferred loans, credit cards, overdrafts...

This is too fucked up for words.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

I'm ok with the iphone, but after seeing friends who have the Samsung Galaxy...man, I wish I had me one of those.
If only I believed in Santa...he'd surely bring me one.

The working conditions, I'm sadly surprised by that, though. I probably shouldn't be.

It's actually pretty practical when you get used to it Tongue

I think the problem has more to do with not teaching people how to balance their checkbooks and other practical life skills.

As for not manipulating people's biological chemistry...what are you talking about? Everything we eat and do manipulates our internal chemistry, and some people NEED to have their chemistry manipulated.

I saw the documentary.

The workhouses in China were appalling, and regardless of what Apple says they (don't) know, when your supplier is fitting suicide nets to their factories and accommodation alarm bells should start ringing.

But someone earlier mentioned the other electronics companies that this documentary ignored. When it came to the tin mining operations in Indo-China, they're all culpable, and we're all to blame (partly). Before anyone jumps down my throat about it, how much do we actually care about the supply chain that goes into developing our phones, PCs or TVs etc? Vast swathes of the areas where they mine the tin (legally and illegally) have been irrevocabley decimated by the mining operations there, but nobody really seems to care because demand is almost contanst regardless of the price.ni mean, here I am typing on an iPad. Hell I even watched the documentary on this thing, so I'd be a hypocrite if I started saying 'down with Apple!'

What needs to happen is more conscientious supply chain management. Apple already charges well, well over the odds for a phone that probably costs them around $100 to make and ship. Take some of the profit and re-invest in the 3rd world countries that supply you. Demand will always be there, as is evidenced by the massive market for technological goods around the world. So take a little hit. Fat chance of it happening.

Iphones are overpriced - Why buy an Iphone if you can buy a smartphone with the same functions and quality for half the price? The same can be said for the iPad, there's so many great tablets out there for a cheaper price.

I actually own an iPod nano because it's a product I enjoy for being small and useful for music listeners.

I'm like 200 years old... I know how to use a computer... I learned how to click mouse and buttons on DOS... computers weren't interesting until then.

Now? They are too interesting. I can't deal with it; I've got a brainblock like i'm my own grandmother. I'm not a very precise person when I'm using a trackpad...

I sometimes play FPSs with the trackpad.
It's utter shit, but it adds to the challenge.
