What were you doing a year ago?

RE: What were you doing a year ago?
Ahhhh battle-bots.

Reminds me of the time a friend and I used to buy the cheapy RC boats from the department store and design/fix weapons to them, toss them into the pool and try to sink/disable the other.

We would do this once a week and gathered a little crowd of folks (maybe 10-15 people) who would come to spectate. A couple/few fellas went out and brought a boat of their own and joined the fray.

After a few nasty explosions (our only 'rule' was no projectile weapons, small, about firecracker size, explosive bombs were permitted but sometimes what you thought would be firecracker size turned out not to be) some cracked windows and an irate apartment manager we had to stop doing it in their pool in the dead of night.

I was the maintenance manager there at the time, after management found out what we were doing I was no longer. Smile

The 'game' was evolving nicely, no more explosive devices and turning it from a free for all into a sort of 'death-race' where you must race like 6 laps around the pool, first survivor to cross the finish line wins a beer. That sort of thing, but after being chased off our 'course' we all kinda drifted our own way and Battle Boat Death Racing was no more. Sad
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

That's a shame. In the UK there is still a big gun competition where scaled versions of battleships fire ball bearings at each other to sink the opponent. Great fun to look at. we even made some pneumatic parts for a few of the competitors a few years back.

I can't remember that far back, so I looked at my livejournal for a post I made a year ago.

Oh joy, A year ago today I found out someone posted a friends locked entry on 4chan.

Eilonnwy's LJ Wrote:You know I've heard a lot of shit said about me since AB08 and honestly I've dealt with it. I've come to terms a long time ago that I have a strong personality, that not everyone agrees with me, and not everyone is going to like me. Added to that the fact that no matter what I do or say people are going to hate me for AB, and they can if they want. I'm not going to cry over anonymous hatred. At this point I'm used to the same BS and hearing the same misinformation about what happened in 08. But what made my blood run cold today was finding out my personal friends locked entry was posted on cosfu and 4chan. I know it was months ago, but I never knew. I would never do that anyone on my friends list. Never. I also wish I had been told.

I know I'm not a perfect person and I've probably pissed people off. I know I can get ranty or whiney on this journal, but you don't have to read it. Yeah, I complain a lot here, but it is my journal. Complaining on LJ is how I vent and then feel better.

If you where the one who posted my private entry, please have the balls to say who you are and confront me. I may also do a friends cut soon.

I was also planning a big party for my 24th birthday and sending out invites.

That party was awesome BTW.

Well in that case I might as well refer you to this: http://www.riobotz.com.br/riobotz_combot_tutorial.pdf . 300 pages of combat robot building tutorial.

We did everything on paper and after we were done chucked those away. The plumbing is not that complicated so we do most by eye and hand anyway. The whole system with pictures you can find here:
