I've learned something by this tragedy:
When conservatives brandish signs that say "don't tread on me!" and "we came unarmed, this time", when their leaders speak of "second amendment remedies" and "reload", when protesters come armed and threaten federal agents, when a few bad eggs become unhinged and attack or kill police officers, that's FREEDOM!
When liberals protest... they shouldn't. Ever. No matter how non-violent the rhetoric (if "hands up, don't shoot" isn't acceptable then what is?) no matter how much leaders call for calm and peace, no matter how much we're trying to work within the system, it's SEDITION!

Let's face facts: ideals are much more fearsome than bullets.

These are chickens coming home to roost. The NYPD has squandered the trust of its citizens by killing them for selling loose cigarettes, stop-and-frisk tactics that should appall any supporter of limited government, and an arrogance combined with ineptitude. Remember the Empire State Builing shootout? Nine bystanders injured by police bullets.
Let them earn their respect.
I see. You're justifying the murders of those two police officers?

No. Explaining isn't excusing.
I don't have any respect for a department that escalates to deadly force, using a maneuver that has been known for decades to be lethal, for the crime of selling loose cigarettes. When a department does that, there will certainly be people angry enough to take up arms.

You realize that the shooter was just your garden variety nut job, right? There's very little social dynamic here, just a suicide-by-cop that didn't even get that right.

It doesn't sound that way to me. It sounds like you're saying, "Oh well, the police had it coming to them. The chickens coming home to roost thing. So what if two officers were ambushed and murdered while eating lunch in their squad car. After all, they asked for it."....That's what it sounds like you're saying.
Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just do what a police officer tells you rather than resisting and trying to get physical? This can be sorted out afterward. There's plenty of venues people can resort to if they feel they've been the victims of police abuse. The ACLU or other legal options can be pursued. They would love to jump on shit like that. Why put yourself in a situation that's either going to get you seriously wounded or killed?

Who wants to bet that if the guys who killed the cops are ever brought before a judge, they'll get a much harsher penalty than any of the police who've been killing unarmed citizens?
That's right, folks: we're holding police to a lesser standard than the general public. They spend years training and learning to keep he peace, but we don't expect them to resist killing people any more than we do some joe off the street.

And we wonder why cops are so paranoid and on edge when on their job, of course their trained to do what they do but their still just like you and me, they do fear what could happen.

I think part of the problem is that police just expect you to do whatever they tell you to do, even if they have no legal right to do it. Is it legal to attack a guy for selling taxless cigs, and not immediately getting in the car when asked? Should it be? Or attacking people for not handing over information on demand? There are boundaries that should be in place. The police don't seem to be aware of it.
