Yeah, you're right. At least Gump doesn't commit global genocide.
Just wait until the remake.

The people who profited from it had the ability to kill anyone who disagreed. Amazing what that can do for your bottom line!
Compare it to the bauty Greek and Roman authors created at the same time to appreciate the primitivity that is the bible. It's like Aronra said in one of his presentations: Created by savages to justify their vile acts.

Every culture of set of people make up something to justify what they are doing is morally accepted and god approved. Sad really.....

The promise is important part of the story, the Amalekites are no longer around to make or be involved in history, they are gone forever. Any sensible person could understand that's what was meant by recording the event in the Bible. "I promise to wipe them from history, and then I'll record them in history, so that people will know I promised to wipe them from history and remember them, even though I, almighty god, set out to destroy them from history." Any sensible person wouldn't believe any fucking recorded event in the bible. Square that circle harder, GC. Pick them cherries, too. Six months later and some shit, it seems, hasn't changed. And speaking of the Greeks and Romans, a comparison of what they understood by "virtue" as something denoting aspiration and excellence with the debased and morally bankrupt Christian idea of grace and vicarious atonement is all one really needs to know about how low the ancient world sank once these spiritual dwarfs gained power. I don't subscribe to all of Nietzsche's thesis regarding the noble vs. the slave mentality at the heart of ancient religions, but it's a useful lens through which to view these different movements. The rabble became ascendant, and we are still dealing with the fallout from that development. To drive my point home, just imagine a conversation between Socrates and Paul or Aristotle and the Jesus from the Gospels and the chasm between these worlds should become clear.
The Greeks and Romans considered the jews to be barbarian fucks.
