Any Theists on AF, I Challenge You to a Debate on the Existence of God

RE: Any Theists on AF, I Challenge You to a Debate on the Existence of God
Hey, apologies if I sound arrogant. I don't mean to be. But so far I've not heard a single argument that is even the tiniest but convincing. If anyone does have one, I'm always happy to hear it! I have not just decided there can't be a good argument.

I think it's quite hilairious when atheists are demanded to "prove their position". That means not just proving one negative, which is generally impossible, but proving an infinite number of negatives against every possible religious claim.

Do I have to prove every kind of dragon can't exist too? What about evil meta-bullets?

That is a good point. Most theists come to their believes either through childhood teachings that they don't question or through their feelings or needs. If people admitted this, there wouldn't be much reason to debate. Based on everything we know thus far, the atheist stance is the most logical If most theists would admit that their view of god isn't based on logic but their emotional needs for a god, I could respect that position.

The problem is that most theists believe that their faith is logical and they try to convert others using their version of logic. Even if a theist acknowledges that their faith isn't based on logic, they often do still try to find reasons why their set of beliefs make more sense then another set of beliefs. If you ask a Christian why they don't become Hindu or Wiccan, they will often tell you how illogical the other faith is but not admit that their beliefs make as little sense as those two.

I do wish that we had a broader range of theists that visited this site. It seems to be mainly Christian that debate here but I would like to hear from faiths like Hindus who have a different version of the definition of god

We're all connected in our understanding of meaning and purpose. I shouldn't decry any other understanding outside my own. All are valuable insights. Hindu, atheist etc..

My dad hit me on the head until I believed this book was magic. Therefor you should also believe it is magic. Or I'll hit you on the head.

Fantastic.

I'm totally with you, if theists admitted their beliefs are not based on reason and evidence, I'd respect that a lot more. And I also agree, not many are willing to admit that. Instead they come up with heinous arguments they wouldn't use in any other subject of "debate".

And sure, if they admit this, there's no point debating.

A Christian argueing with a Muslim about who has the "correct faith" is both hilarious and saddening. Maybe I'll rip off Deist Paladin and make a True Muslim account. I can do that right? Big Grin If I put in my sig that I'm a jobber?

The problem is that we get an even narrower sample, since most of the theists visiting here are evangelical christians. To my knowledge we don't even have any chatolic or mainstream protestant.

Maybe fr0d0, though honestly I don't know what denomination, if any, you are.

There are at least a couple of self-identified Hindus here. Rasetsu comes to mind, though I haven't seen much of her lately.

I wish we could get a practicing Jew or two who really know their stuff. It would be interesting to see the Christians try to run their "Jesus is prophesied hundreds of times in the OT" schtick past them. There's nothing like a bunch of gentiles telling the Jews what their holy book really means.

Jesus FTW muthafucka!

I don't go around looking for fights, getting in religious guy's faces. But if someone comes to me and expects me to believe something, I'm gonna ask for reasons. Sorry about that!

I include posting claims on this forum as "coming to me". Unless they make it clear they are talking to a specific other person. Of course, if anyone has a problem with that, let me know and I'll leave you alone!

I'm salvation army/ Methodist/ Protestant

This site specifically attracts evangelicals through it's ethos. You'd have to go to an open religious forum for that kind of exposure.

One last thing then I'll shut up for now.

It's kind of ridiculous to claim that you do have reason and evidence for your religious faith. Because if you do, it wouldn't be faith. It would be in the realm of science.
