Well done Elskidor, as promised you have a rep.
Now that the easiest question is out of the way we'll recap:
1 rep if you can tell me what I recorded (pretty easy with the hint below). - Already awarded. Answer was: Wizard of Oz.
1 rep if you can tell me approximately what day of the year I recorded. This can be easily deduced from the clues I have given including the screenshots and my remark that it was an Australian holiday.
1 rep for the first person to correctly identify the year - limit one guess per customer. This can be easily deduced from the screenshots I posted. - Already answered below. Answer was: 1990.
1 rep if you can guess why I recorded this tape. This is difficult, but the answer is somewhere in the screenshots I posted.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

Was this in 1990?
I looked up the Canberra Raider Lime milk commercial.
And was it ANZAC day or Australia Day?

You are right about the year, well done. I gave two clues that allowed you to get the year, Raider's Lime and the Milo and Otis ad (I thought the Milo and Otis one would be a bit difficult to get on its own).
Milo and Otis:

That was Milo and Otis? I didn't recognise it without the Dudley Moore narration...

or the animal cruelty. There was no animal cruelty in Koneko Monogatari (/Milo and Otis), that's nothing but a wives' tale.

Fair enough, I guess. Honestly, Japan's history of animal welfare is dodgy enough that it wouldn't surprise me if the rumors were true. Still, it might be a more interesting film if it was true. Without it, you just have a movie where Dudley Moore talks about a pug and a tabby giving the audience diabetes.
And back to the thread, the screenshot of the Milo and Otis trailer had virtually nothing to suggest any connection with the film. Hell, the "adults at children's prices" thing reminded me more of Tim and Eric than anything else.

Ooh! Ooh! BOXING DAY! That is the Aussie holiday, amirite?
Based solely upon the graphic art and striped shirt, I'm going to say the year was 1998.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

And back to the thread, the screenshot of the Milo and Otis trailer had virtually nothing to suggest any connection with the film. Hell, the "adults at children's prices" thing reminded me more of Tim and Eric than anything else. Yeah, the film was filmed over a period of four years, entirely on a farm. Reportedly around 20-30 different cats were used to portray the single cat in the film (which is not a lot at all when you consider they needed to use 48 different pigs in addition to animatronic pigs to portray Babe in Babe and that was shot over a period of only 6 months!) No matter how many times I see Babe it always makes me hungry for pork. Anyway, the question of is there any animal cruelty in Milo and Otis is no there isn't. None whatsoever shown on film, and none that anybody knows about off-film either. I'd agree that the animals may have put through dangerous situations (what humans use stunt-doubles for), although most of the danger portrayed in the film is not real, and that filming those scenes could have ended in disaster.
Yes, I posted a screenshot of the cat floating down the river in the box. It's one of the more iconic scenes in the movie and anyone who's seen the movie has a chance to recognise it.
Let's not forget that it was an award-winning movie, and that the allegations were investigated and nothing has ever been found. Animal rights groups as you would know tend to make well-exaggerated and misleading claims, as well as unsubstantiated allegations.

Since a number of you keep guessing summer holidays, I'll remind you that I have a screenshot here:
Of an advertisement for the snow season, ergo this was certainly in winter.

So, what I wanted from the tape, plus more, will be put on youtube shortly - but I'm waiting for people to answer the remaining questions for free reps from me!
This should go without saying but there are hardly any holidays in the winter in Australia, so it should be very easy to identify which one it was!
