RE: Which programming language
Our business programming unit use Delphi primarily and the call for it is dwindling drastically with the onslaught of web apps. The consumer/ marketplace wants web based.

RE: Which programming language
A load of smaller companies are now using Google Apps for mail, calendar, documents, etc, etc. Most (if not all) programs can be made into web apps these days, and it's good for companies (especially the smaller ones) since people can work from home, or take company laptops without the risk of having data loss, since it's all on a central server.

Oh yeah, and webapps are platform independent which is good if you can't force workers to use a single OS (or don't want to pay license fees for Windows).

Our finance, personnel and customer management systems. Loads of small database front ends too. If it isn't replaced by a window onto a web server there's a java app helping organise the client end. The trend seems to be away from client processing and towards thin client.

Of course, all of this increased networking use is brilliant for me as an Information Security student. It means there'll be plenty of jobs for me when I graduate. Big Grin

Honestly, you guys have no idea how insecure your data is. It would be laughable if it weren't so serious. Leaving laptops on trains pales in comparison...

RE: Which programming language
Here in Wales the Welsh Assembly has just handed out £1mill to each Local Authority to plug the holes although the timescale for implementation was at least 1/3 of what it needed to be... there's also the cash to add 20% more staff.. not many in security though! Sad

RE: Which programming language
I recommend Perl. Its the only language where you can write code and not be able to understand what the hell you just wrote, just that it works. Regular expressions.... mmmmmm, tasty.
A finite number of monkeys with a finite number of typewriters and a finite amount of time could eventually reproduce 4chan.
