Religious leaders/pastors turning atheist.

RE: Religious leaders/pastors turning atheist.
I'd recommend Ryan Bell's appearance on Penn Jillette's podcast where they talk about this for a good long time. Very interesting discussion and the (former) Pastor seemed very open and genuine in his feelings and investigation, when he started his "year of atheism" he was already heavily questioning his beliefs and just wanted to try a period of time without all the rituals associated with them.

Very cool conversation.

The notion of atonement through a blood sacrifice is incredibly ancient. As such, it is unsurprising that the ancient people of the time relied on even earlier myths to craft their own salvation mythos.

Your basis for believing in this as fact rests entirely on one book, written after the claimed events and found agreeable to be included in the bible (as opposed to say the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, which casts Jesus in a less than favorable, but more human, light). If you believe that then that's all well and good, but you can't state it to us as though it is fact.

Knowledge of his existence, of some universal truth? What about all of the other people in the world that are equally convinced that their god/gods have also imparted ultimate knowledge to them? Why do you happen to be right, but they happen to be wrong?

GC faith is just that you have blind faith with no proof and that is really dangerous.

That's told you, dyresand!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I still have better morals than you. If god told you to kill your children because of something very convoluted i highly believe you would do it.
and how is my mind dangerous when i care about all life and not wanting
everything to die? you want the world to end i don't so how is my mind dangerous when i want everything a chance at life.

How are subjective morals to be compared to subjective morals, how can one determine who has the best morals.

Quote:If god told you to kill your children because of something very convoluted i highly believe you would do it.

This is your better morals?

Quote:and how is my mind dangerous when i care about all life and not wanting everything to die?

Whaaaat! You're the one who believes that all life comes to an end. I on the other hand have belief in an eternal life, something you would deny others.

Quote:you want the world to end i don't so how is my mind dangerous when i want everything a chance at life.

With the end of time comes eternal life, you would have all life to die away or in your disbelief you would send them to an eternal hell, you have no respect for life, just your own self image.

You get morals from a god who is so amoral you think he is good but you don't take 2 steps back from frenching his ass to notice even with history we are getting more moral without a god in our laws and yet i follow those laws and i have my own as well. If god told me personally to kill my children i would tell god to go fuck himself you inconsiderate heartless being. And yet what would you do i know you would you won't say because you know i am right. Prove where in the fuck it says end times in the fucking bible because there is no mention of rapture in that toilet paper of a book.
