RE: new to forum
Wait would becoming a mulch to remain in the web of life count as life after death? If so, sign me up. When my brain is dead and all consciousness ceases I would like to set my organic molecules free. Maybe I'll get incorporated into a bunch of flies and worm. But that could lead to some time being part of a robin. Anyhow, I'm pretty sure there will be life after my death and I'm game to participate unknowingly by the only means left to me. It'll be a damn shame when our sun goes all wonky and finishes it all off here. But hey, every party has to end. It's been great.

Um, depends.

Lets make something clear, "atheist" has nothing to do with level of education. It can be argued as an average, but the word itself is not a notation of a academic degree.

I have run into atheists who hold some really nutty positions, like the universe being a thinking being. I have run into others who think 9/11 was an inside job. I have run into others who buy into JFK conspiracies.

And there are Buddhists who do not believe in gods. but do believe in reincarnation and Karma. There are Jews who like the traditions but don't believe in a god.

There are even atheists who stupidly think that mere energy waves can behave in the same manor as an in tact human brain. It would be as stupid as thinking smashing your computer into tiny bits and still expecting the individual parts to behave like the in tact computer.

So the reality is the word "atheist" merely means "off" on god claims, it does not preclude them from holding other nutty ideas. It only refers to god claims.

So it depends on the individual atheist what they personally belief just like any other group. The only thing atheists ultimately have in common is "off" on god claims.

Welcome aboard emma.
The fear of death is only natural and it easily leads to the desire of eternal life, if not in this mortal version (as is evidently not going to happen), then in some non-tangible format.
It is wishful thinking... and it is comforting to think it is so.

Reality, on the other hand, cares not for your desires and fears. Reality just is.
Most of us here are inclined to accept the apparent reality, instead of letting ourselves give in to our wishes and fears.
You do what you feel works best for you... in the end, it doesn't really matter.

Welcome emmasheba.

I've given consideration to a materialistic life after death, IOW no deities involved. It would require intervention on the part of more advanced (but not supernatural) beings. We're talking aliens or time-traveling (assuming the laws of physics actually permit that) future humans. They would have to be able to record the molecular patterns in one's brain and then play the recording back into some form. The advanced beings in question would have to have a reason to do this, of course. I can't say I actually believe this happens but I entertain it as a possibility.

Unlike many atheists, I am very bothered by the thought of my pending non-existence. I might not want to live literally forever but I find the time we are allocated here to be tragically short. I want much more time than I have but in the end, I doubt any advanced beings out there cares.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Welcome aboard. Some do, I don't. I think that you might be using the word impossible wrong btw..if you see something extant, right in front of you (like nature)...that's the polar opposite of something that's "impossible". So regardless of how it came to be, "impossible" isn't really a word that fits in that conversation.

Oh yes, fear of death is healthy depending. If you didn't fear death you wouldn't look both ways when crossing a busy street. But the comic book fear of religion of a super man and or a super villain is unhealthy. It basically treats you like a pawn in a bet. It condemns you at birth even before you make your first mistake.

I fear a long drawn out painful death. I fear not being around my family and friends. But I cant fear the nothingness after I die anymore than I had a fear of my non existence 4 billion years ago. It would be like fearing the after death of a tree. You can have a healthy fear of things that prevents harm to you, but it is silly to fear a natural process you cant avoid.

Unfortunately evolution's primary goal isn't fact finding, it's only goal is getting to reproduction. If a bad guess, a sugar pill creates that opportunity, in evolution, that false perception still works.

But death is as natural as birth, is as as natural as the seasons changing. There is nothing that you can do but delay it at best.

Is there a after life... probably not. But if there is evidence of a after life and solid evidence ill be fine with that. Though you are a creationist everything isn't created so.... erm... intelligently nature working as intended.

I have been promised command of hell, so I'm counting on an afterlife.
