Some have jobs, and others have movies to watch.

You mean you exist outside of my computer? LOL

Actually, over the next few days, I won't be on this forum a lot either. Like you, I exist outside the internet.

I just noticed this topic.
There has never been a real theocracy.

The Theocracy that is coming will be delightful.
Slavery will not exist. Neither will war.
Wicked people will no longer be running things.

Theocracies.. I'm dead against them.

Which theocracies were you thinking of? I've never considered it/ such a thing seems like an abomination/ the ones that come to mind certainly were.

Christians/ Christ like actions were instrumental in dismantling slavery. Biblical accounts promote humanitarian ethics over the current practices.

Freedom of speech??? You seem to have derailed. Without freedom there cannot be love. Without love there cannot be freedom. Your proposed theocracy is anti faith.

Capital punishment? Such a thing is barbaric and the produce of the irreligious. Laws rooted in Christian theology are in danger of being revoked because secular morals cannot justify them. In secular law, retaliation is the only justice.

Business should be fair and serve the community and ecology. The god of capitalism needs slaying.

Women should be treated fully respectfully as women, not as men. The complete fulfillment potential of both sexes should be fully supported.

There should be complete freedom of religion and irreligion. Anything less is undesirable.

Your OP is stuffed full of straw. It's insulting, and you let yourself down.

(First time I saw this thread whoever bumped it)

Bull. If you have time to type out the usual nonsense you do, then you have time to give this thread genuine notice and response.

I once worked with a guy. A DB Admin.

He once stated that the only successful government possible would be a theocracy. Of course, it would have to be a theocracy that fit his religious beliefs exactly.

Scary guy.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

If you are a Christian, do you think that a theocracy that used your bible to create its laws would be a good place to live?

Just so we are on the same page I will be using this defination for theocracy to answer your questions.

the·oc·ra·cy
THēˈäkrəsē/Submit
noun
a system of government in which priests rule in the name of God or a god.
the commonwealth of Israel from the time of Moses until the election of Saul as King.
noun: Theocracy; noun: the Theocracy

First answer: no.
Every theocracy, eventually fails, due to the corruptiblity of man. Even at the height of theocracy under David and even under the wisest man Solomon still failed because those in power, always succumb to sin. When these men fall, everyone around them typically falls as well, because the worship lines between God and goverment are often blurred.

Quote: What about slavery?
What about it?

Quote: Can you offer a biblical defense as to why slavery would or would not be allowed in this imaginary theocracy?
man has been given over to rule himself. If he outlaws slavery in his goverments then slavery would be outlawed.

Quote:If slavery would be allowed, under what conditions could one person make another person their property?
if slavery was allowed then yes.

Quote:Would there be freedom of speech in a theocracy?
It would depend on the goverment.

Quote:Would a theocracy allow capital punishment and if so how would it be carried out?
it would be allowed scripturally. It would be carried out anyway that soceity deemed appropriate.

Quote:Would businesses be able to charge interest on loans?
Again we have been given the authority to decide whatever we wish. I think your confusing biblical Christianity and OT Judaism.

Quote: Would you personally want to live in a theocracy if your own religion was in charge?
maybe if I was in charge Tongue. You guys would be in so much trouble! Wink
Seriously? No. If David and Solomon couldn't make it work...

Quote:Do you think that women would be treated fairly or have the rights that they have now?
most of them... I would think the right to kill babies would be repealed.

Quote: What version of Christianity would be considered Christian?
Under my rule all Jesus Christ/bible centered religions would be accepted.

Quote:A theocracy would be a repressive and dangerous place to live no matter which religion controlled the laws but I am interested in whether some religious people that visit here think. If you are religious, do you think a theocracy would work if your religion was in charge?
The tighter you squeeze/hold on to a pealed orange, the more of its essence (the juice) escapes, and what is left is little more than pulp. If you've read the bible in your time as a Christian you should probably come a cross the passage where Pilot was questioning Christ concerning His Kingdom, and Christ answered it is not of this world. I believe this extends theocracies as well. In that we can not as man set fourth a system of goverment designed to worship God, because in the end we will muck it up, and push people from God. As it is we all know where we stand. If God were to strike dead anyone reading this, and judge them on the spot, you all would know I. Your heart his judgemENT was just and why, even if you can't admit it to me. This is a little more difficult if one is forced to go through the motions of religion and devotion living under a theocracy.[/quote]

If you are a theists and you don't want to answer all my questions, at least respond to this one. If your religion was in control of the government, would you want to live in a theocracy? Why or why not?
