I don't really think that this is a problem with modern feminism. Most feminists and that article even acknowledges it, are extremely critical of Islam and the Muslim world. This probably won't be the most popular thing to say in this forum, but this is a problem with modern liberalism, not modern feminism. Most serious Liberalism has cobbled together a variety of groups into their big tent and post 9/11 one of those groups is Muslims (I believe 70% of Muslims voted Republican pre-9/11) The inclusion of Islam into the left wing in both Europe and the United States brings them directly at odds with feminism and indeed with almost all of their social principles. The problem is even more stark when you include GBLT groups. These are people who cannot be part of the same ideology as one of them believe that the other shouldn't even exist. Either tolerance for Islam has to go or inclusion of feminist and GBLT community has to go. (Or you can try to do a retarded mental dance like the woman in that article.)

Quote:Narrowly citing the Qur’an (Islam’s holy text) and various Hadiths (teachings and accounts of the Prophet Muhammad), some Muslims argue that Islam is cissexist, requires patriarchy, and forbids homosexuality.
However, many other Muslims maintain that Islam demands compassion, acceptance, and love.

Instead of just pretending all the horrible shit isn't in the Quran, why not just print out the bits you actually like and have sex with that. I bet it wouldn't weight much.
Religion's power only comes from its ability to convince people of supernatural nonsense. Books are just books. The Quran wouldn't hurt anyone if people stopped pretending it had anything to do with reality.

That's just bigotry. They won't shoot you for being gay in Iran.
They'll bury you up to your neck in the public square and stone you to death, like civilized people.

I agree, no disrespect to the person who wrote the initial post about "modern feminism".
It's "liberal multiculturalism" - This idea that we can't intervene in Islamic affairs we don't agree, even if they are happening in the West, for the sake of respecting culture and ethnic diversity. It's stupid and wrong. As I've said before, liberal multiculturalism defends religion's right to not be liberal, and that doesn't work.
You can't simultaneously push for the rights of women and gays while also defending religions which actively push back against that. It's the great paradox of liberal left-wing politics to me. I'd describe myself as "left wing" and "liberal" in almost all my political views, but I can't get behind liberal multiculturalism.
And as Rexbeccarox points out, yes the author of that article is a male lmao

That's so narrow-minded. Just because he calls himself a heterosexual cis male, that doesn't mean you can stuff him in your little box called 'dude.' We need to respect that people can mean whatever they want by the lables they choose to apply to themselves.
I, for example, am a trisexual multigendered unicorn.

LGBTQIA+ ????
I'm all for equal rights and the efforts taken to ensure them, but seriously, how many more fucking letters and symbols are we going to tack onto LGBT?

I feel like I'm Kudos-ing everyone on this thread but so many things I agree with.
Yeah this does wear me out about the gay community sometimes. If you are not "straight", you are "gay/lesbian" or "bi". "Asexual" for people who feel nothing. "Transgender" isn't related to sexuality either, although I'm not debating whether it should be included, I don't mind either way.
I feel like all these categories for sexuality and gender just confuse people. "I'm pansexual, and I am male, female, everything and nothing at the same time." Ok you're doing. Too. Much.
@ FatAndFaithless - I don't even know anymore because there's so many unicorn identities now "I" can be a few things. My best bet would be "Intersex" (which actually is a real thing).
Also any not-straight person who calls themselves "Queer" needs to have a seat.
