From mindlessly following along. I suppose the fall of man was inevitable. Adam and Eve are apparently expected to follow orders and not do anything crazy like pursue knowledge, so when the snake tells Eve to eat from the fruit of the tree, her instinct is to do so. Otherwise she might have to apply some critical thinking, and that way lies disast... ohhh...
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Xeno, If one can be kept distracted from the absolute solution of the 2 big questions in life-
1) What am I doing here? 2) Where will I be in a hundred years? And be enticed to believe lies, or endlessly following after rabbit trails of any variety of "deep" knowledge, and you never get your answer to those two big questions- you are not ready to face your maker at the end of this life. The pseudo intellectuals will tell you there is no rhyme or reason for life/ no one can find those answers, or hand you a bunch of BS and say you are an idiot for asking. They are responsible for themselves and deceiving others. You are responsible for you. If, as you learn what you need to know about life, work, people, etc., you also pursue knowing the truth about yourself and the truth about God- THAT is what you will find, plus the other things you need thrown in. What a package, huh? I've got something real good for you but you can only get if you stay ignorant and stupid (so I can control you). Oh, and if you don't, you'll be tortured for eternity. Is that the most insidious pile of shit ever or what?
Are you a used-car salesman, professor? You should be if you're not.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I don't think you're an idiot for asking, but you can't know the answers. We're not decieving ourselves for thinking that, either, because recognizing that every argument ever made that does claim to know has been completely unfounded is not deception. And it has nothing to do with knowledge, either. It's just good reasoning.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
