I guess it's hard to get one from inside a palace.

No. Certain belief systems can not be respected even if it makes a show of respecting others.

She is living in a palace and speaking out on behalf of a religion that would cut the noses off of other women who live in hovels for daring to make a pip outdoors.

What perspective could she possibly have, other than how to appease zealots of that religion so she gets to continue to live in the palace?

To the end of highlighting how absurd muslims are for trying to enable what is at most a rotting 1400 year old corpse to reach out from the grave to snuff out lives of living men for speaking freely to other freethinking men.

Her comments further the absurd notion that all religions deserve respect. Why? For existing? If one even mentions something negative regarding Islam, that person is labeled as intolerant right-winger. If one criticizes Christianity, that person is obviously a puppet of the great Satan and deemed untrustworthy and evil. This is one of the things I cannot stand about the far left, which I share many political views with. When I still had Facebook, I mentioned how utterly barbaric Islam is in a liberal group of which I was a member and everybody freaked out. Of course, the far right is equally as bad and far worse in many, many ways so I'm sure as hell not giving them a pass.

Indeed. Why on earth should they deserve respect? You chose to believe a bunch of bullshit, good for you. Why should I respect that? I respect decisions that are made for good reasons, or even adequate reasons. Not decisions made in the face of all reason, and which lead to moral and intellectual bankruptcy.

There's nothing special about "faith" or religion. It takes a lot more effort to come up with a convincing imaginary pet dragon than it does to just sign on to the local religion.

If one does not respect the beliefs of the other, they should expect none in return.

I respect good ideas and not bad ideas. It doesn't matter who holds them.

I don't expect respect for my beliefs unless they are respectable.

Hedging her bets.

"I don't think people should be killed for drawing Mohammed, but they shouldn't do it in the first place."

Right on the edge of victim blaming.

On a light note, Min's two threads locked step for an amusing thing:

"The Queen has a Question"
"It is a good question"
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

BUT.....

And here's her question.

I can see the point. Several points:

1) Horrible things are done in the name of Islam, and that should be called out, ridiculed, and punished. Cartoons are mild.
2) Pointing out the foibles, flaws, and evils of a figure held dear to many has the obvious point of truth.
3) No religion or group should be allowed to limit discourse. A religion that tries to do that should hear a lot of very loud shit.

I love how there's never any reflection as to why religion isn't being afforded any respect. It's always just a demand without any acceptance of responsibility, and no one ever pauses to think that maybe telling everyone they deserve eternal punishment isn't the best way to garner respect.

It's like Rick Perry insisting that he be taken seriously as a theortetical physicist.
