How Jesus became a carpenter

This is the only place in the NT where Jesus is identified as a carpenter.

The Greek word used is 'tekton' .... now 'teknon' means "child"

Replacing tekton with teknon gives us the reading:

Is not this man the child, the son of Mary ....

The context is that this was the first time he'd been back to his home town since childhood. If he'd been the local carpenter they would have recognised him sooner, sort of thing.

The Bible has several stories about carpenters carving idols out of scrap wood. When Jesus was crucified on the wooden cross he became the ultimate idol.

Not meant to worship them idols. It's naughty.

Again you didn't look up the words you're using did you..

You know how I can tell?

Because teknon is a figurative term describing a 'child of God'.

You're using a biblical source for translation. That is exactly my criticism, that you're using your faith to filter your intellect.

But -- your own source gives the first denotation as "properly, a child". This means that you skipped right past that to go with your figurative preference, because that comports with your faith. This is exactly how faith blinds people.

So yeah, that's two points you've missed so far, Gatsby.

Your own source undercuts this claim with its first three words.

In a fucked up patriarchal society like first century Judaea, what man would say that? Women didn't count for shit.... like in muslim areas today. No one would have given a single fuck about "Mary."

They might have said, "is not this man the child, the son of Joseph...the cuckold?"

Joseph: it's a boy!
Mary: yay!
Joseph: hang on, but we didn't...
Mary: oh. I was a virgin though! You can't expect any evidence of that now though, so it's unreasonable to ask for any. Believe everything I tell you on faith.
Joseph: ok.
Mary: someone else was the father, but I'm a virgin.
Joseph: ok.
Mary: it was God!
Joseph: say what bitch?

Also, I have to laugh my ass off at the fact that Dreck cannot even spell the name "Mary" correctly, even though she's the alleged mother of his god.

It's four letters, Dreck. "MARY". Is it that complicated? Are your seventeen neurons overwhelmed?

What if they knew Joseph wasn't his actual father? That way that verse is worded has always confused me also. Did they think Jesus was illegitimate?

Jesus was a shitty carpenter. So shitty in fact that the crucifixion was nothing but an elaborate story concocted by Jesus to keep from admitting he put nails through his own hands while attempting to build a table.

I see you chose to only look at and respond to just 1/2 the post I left... Wonder whyThinking

LightbulbCould it be that the Matthew reference ends the topic the OP posted, and your red herring was just an attempt to try and avoid your concession.
