Interesting, this was all the rage back in the 70ies, when I was still a kid and still went to church off and on. They used to play what they called jazz during service. Wasn't that bad actually, but did nothing to take away from the general boredom. It was always a big relief when it was communion time, since that meant, only one further song to go and the ordeal's over.
