Is it a good idea to be an atheist?
#31
RE: Is it a good idea to be an atheist?
It isn't about whether I think it's a good idea or not. I'm an atheist because I looked at the information, saw the similarities between christianity and all the other mythologies at the time, found out about contemporary cultures, and asked myself if I really believed all this was true. Did I really accept the core principles of christianity, and want to worship the god described in the bible. My answer, as an adult, was no. Hence I'm an atheist. Is it a good idea to be an atheist in a predominantly christian community? No. Probably not. I can't help it, though.

They'd love it on a Christian forum if I came in and said, "You all believe Jesus is a ham sandwich! Do you have any idea how ridiculous that is? A sandwich isn't even a person! Wow you guys are weird."

Oh yes, I forgot. Atheism is a state of mind not a choice. Good point! I can't make myself believe something just because I want to.

What, that's it?

Nah, he's off studying atheism in detail now I think. He'll come back with a really thoughtful response.

Otherwise, do people really think they are going to change people's minds by busting in, firing off some blanks and saying, "You're dead"?

I am still waiting.

Sorry but the burden of proof, as you call it, is on you. Otherwise, it means you would first - if no proof - assume there is no God. Which is contradictory.

No, there is no evidence of any gods. The default position is not just lack of belief, but lack of even the concept of gods.
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

OP, I recommend you look up the meaning of the following words and phrases before you post again:

Atheism
burden of proof
strawman fallacy
assertion

For bonus points, check the word "bullshit".
