Yeah, it's along the lines of "if you're speaking with the intent to encourage people to break the law and the things you're saying are the kinds of things that would get people to break the law, then you can get in trouble for it."

The thing here, though, is that, in a bizarre way, he's not asking people to break the law, he's trying to change the law and is, in fact, using the proper forum for doing so. He's a terrible human being and a waste of space, but, from a lawyer standpoint, he's doing things in a way that's likely to maximize publicity while still providing immunity from any sort of prosecution.

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

Well, I suppose there is. But let's not forget that in certain states in America a judge can command people to put a person to death - as long as he does it in accordance with the law. I suppose if you follow procedure - you can try and convince other people of whatever you like. Unfortunately, it's a side-effect of democracy and freedom of speech.

I'm not having a go at USA- even though I'm against death penalty on principle. I think nuts like this lawyer scumbag (I know, I know - redundant), or Westboro Baptists should be allowed to express their opinions - as long as they obey the law and conform to the results of the democratic process.

Sure - it's ugly, but at least we know about them and they do and/or will suffer consequences, if not legal - than social and political. In fact - I'd say they really work against their own causes, by inadvertently ridiculing and/or demonizing them in the eyes of the public. It's the silent nuts we need to worry about.

Quote:A group of California legislators has filed a complaint against a lawyer who is proposing a statewide ballot initiative that would allow gays and lesbians to be "put to death by bullets to the head."

Matthew Gregory McLaughlin, an Orange County attorney, filed the so-called Sodomite Suppression Act on Feb. 24 with the state's Office of the Attorney General. McLaughlin's proposed law would also ban gays — whom he refers to as "sodomites" — from holding public office.

Under his proposed law, people found guilty of spreading "sodomite propaganda" would be fined $1 million or see jail time.

It won't pass, thankfully but the fact that there is someone who would even propose such a law is horrible

Actually, as horrible as his sentiment is, I think it's good that he comes out in the open with it. This is an opportunity to point out to everyone exactly the danger that blind faith presents to our society.

And rather than round them up and shoot them, which is inefficient and messy, perhaps the means of execution should be industrialized, so that thousands can be done to death each day?

That would finally solve such a pressing problem.

It does seem that the louder you are in speaking out against gays, and saying it's a choice, the more likely you are to be trying to convince yourself.

It's a publicity stunt, obviously. He's deluded enough to think stirring up shit will help his hateful agenda but all it'll do is further illuminate how insane the right is.

Oh, Orange County. Now it makes sense.
