The research associate of Irish Jewish History at Ulster University made the comments in Facebook posts discussing the case of a bakery that refused to bake a pro-gay marriage cake.


He said: ” God or no God, there’s no such thing as homosexuality. Just a bizarre fetish that has resulted in 72% of new cases of HIV coming from the population group practising this fetish even though they represent under 2% of the population at large.

“Why can’t one simply be disgusted by the practice, by hundreds of thousands of disease infected men, of a bizarre fetish, accompanied by a sick and oversexualised ‘culture’?

“The only reason ‘gays’ are indulged in modern society is because we now worship minority status. He then added; “These people, and their fate, are tragic. They deserve sympathy. I see no reason why they should be encouraged, however, or indulged in their belief that their parody of marriage is valid.”

Ulster University said in a statement: “This individual was commenting in a solely personal capacity and not as a university representative. The university is currently investigating the matter.

[These views are] in no way supported by the university which prides itself on being inclusive and on welcoming staff and students of all backgrounds and beliefs.”

Fascinating, Dr. Mark Gilfillan. It's amazing how someone in the field of... "Irish Jewish History" can tell us all about biology and psychology, not to mention morality.

I find it funny how the most outspoken homophobes go on and on about how "disgusting" homosexual intercourse is. They rant about it every waking moment of their lives. It's like homosexuality - in particular, homosexual intercourse - is always on their minds, for some reason.
I also find it funny how male homophobes only complain about male homosexuals, whereas female homophobes (the few of them that exist) complain about both male and female homosexuals. It's also the men who are most often caught with another man in their pants. Strange phenomenon. "Teh ghey" must really be contagious. No wonder they're so vocal in their opposition.

It's because masculinity culture tells men that they can't be faggots because that's anti-male and things like homosexual intercourse and relationships are considered feminine - Since our culture dislikes men with feminine traits it is considered bad for a male to be gay. Lesbians are a different issue for male homophobes because lesbian sex can be considered hot and it's frequently emphasized on mainstream pornography because it sells (and in some ways it creates stereotypes about Lesbian relationships but that's another issue)

It runs deeper. It may be a cultivated remnant from our stone age ancestry where procreating for the survival of the tribe was the foremost necessity. I can imagine that homophobia has it's origins there. But just as with everything else from the stone- or bronze age, we should be above such lines of thought by now. Well, bigotry tells us differently.
