NOW I have no sound!

The reinstall went spiffingly,except now I have no sound.The system will not recognise the devices,neither the Dell nor generic speakers.

A Google search showed this seems to be a common problem with XP. Yes, I did reinstall all the Dell drivers from a resource disc .

I got hold of a programme called 'Driver Guide Drivers Scan". It found 24 drivers which it says need updating. My policy with updating drivers is "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Any one know how to identify which driver(s) to update,assuming they are listed?

Ah Drivers...yet another reason I don't like using Windows. It's probable that the drivers simply didn't install properly. If you go to the Dell site, you can select your model and there will be a driver download section where you can download the specific audio driver you need.

I have a programme called Driver Detective. It'll cost you a few pounds/dollars/yen or whatever but it's well worth it.
