Your top three rock/pop musicians

RE: Your top three rock/pop musicians
Define "top."

My three favorite artists are:

1. David Bowie
2. John Darnielle
3. Damon Albarn

This is more on the "artistic/theatrical/creation/narrative" side than the musical skill side; I definitely don't think these three are the most, I dunno, skilled musicians or singers or songwriters (though I think Darnielle is without question one of the greatest lyricists of all time), but they're the three that really... umm... resonate with me?

For example:

One of my favorite live videos ever:

How will we know, when the morning comes, we are still human? - 2D

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

Sorry for not being clear, I mean three bands/solo artists whose overall finished products, as TRJF says, 'resonate with' you the most.

He was a very close runner up for me.
"Faith is a state of openness or trust. To have faith is like when you trust yourself to the water. You don't grab hold of the water when you swim, because if you do you will become stiff and tight in the water, and sink. You have to relax, and the attitude of faith is the very opposite of clinging, and holding on. In other words, a person who is fanatic in matters of religion, and clings to certain ideas about the nature of God and the universe becomes a person who has no faith at all. Instead they are holding tight. But the attitude of faith is to let go, and become open to truth, whatever it might turn out to be."

Very good people here, I cant have a top three... my taste is too eclectic and each genre has "tops". I like Jack White, Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson. Off the top of my head.

Top three? No way. The best I can do is top six... and even this changes around:

In no particular order:

The Black Keys
Led Zeppelin
Radiohead
Anything Dave Grohl does
Muse, although their recent stuff has them falling slightly out of favor with me
Anything Ben Folds does
Anything Jack White does (with the exception being that horrible collab he did with ICP- it was either him taking them seriously (yeah, right), or him being a complete dickhead by pretending to be serious while trying to pull off irony. Either way, it doesn't shed a nice light on him).

Ok, we had dream theater and sabbath, but this here list needs moar metal \^^/
So this is going to be a metal only list, which is painfully hard to limit to three

2. Thomas Gabriel Fischer

As a famous swiss cough candy commercial said - Wer hat's erfunden? Die Schweizer!
His bands helped start almost all of extreme metal, from black to death, and even Napalm said that were majorly inspired by their sound. He's still one of the stylistically confident people in extreme music, and such an interesting guy. One can only hope that he doesn't kill himself in desperation over writing the next album

2. Black Sabbath / Iommi

and they invented the genre to begin with. Raw brummie power ^^

3. early Sepultura

I just like them so much better than the other Big Howmany of thrash. Raw and uncompromising, they brought their unique Brazilian perspective and passion to the genre.

Yuhp.

I was literally just listening to the eponymous Ben Folds Five last night. Love that album. Not into the album that came out last year where he got together with the band. It was sadly like a 45 year old trying to recreate the punky off beat magic that was Ben Folds Five.

I grew up with a father who loved Classic Rock, so my choices are a reflection on what I heard the most as a child.

#1: Led Zeppelin (I know they are not perfect and have had a lot of controversy based around them and their music, but I love them)
#2: Rolling Stones (Their music never fails to get me pumped)
#3: The Doors (A rather odd choice, but I love them nonetheless)

Honorabe Mentions (favorite newer bands): Imagine Dragons, Linkin Park, and Ed Sheeran.
