Ask an ex-Catholic

RE: Ask an ex-Catholic
Did your school participate in the "Search" program? And if so were ever forced to attend because of your doubts?

Nope, I've never even heard of that.  Sounds terrible though. Sad

RE: Ask an ex-Catholic
Well I'm not sure if is still used, but 15 years ago when I was in high school it all of the Catholic schools I knew of in TN participated. It's supposed to be purely voluntary but I declined participation so my parents signed me up. One of my brothers was starting to be rebellious. When he came back he became a devout Catholic again and is still to this day. I was much worse than him so they hoped it would help.

Basically they took us to an elementary school for a weekend and chained the doors (not sure how they bypassed fire code). Then for the next 48 hours we were only allowed an hour to sleep (but they gave us Monday off from school to recover lol). Then we have search leaders who were close to our age talk about their struggles and how they found faith. One talked about being molested by a guy dressed as Santa Claus. Another talked about how he was a bully and one day waiting in line in the lunch room Jesus appeared to him and said "I forgive you". I asked him if it was sloppy Joe day because that's the only time Jesus visited our cafeteria. He didn't think it was as funny as I did. All the while we listened to Creed. I never liked them but now I have a clockwork orange reaction lol where I become violently ill.

They also brought in group therapists and we had mass what felt like every couple of hours (not sure because we weren't allowed to have any time keeping devices).

They kept the windows blacked out and the only time we could see natural light was 1 hour each day in the yard (fenced in playground) as I called it.

Obviously it didn't stick lol I was more rebellious than ever, but I did have some friends that were changed because of it and they stopped associating with me shortly thereafter. We also weren't ssupposed to talk about what search was. I assume to create the impression of a secret club. I actually got threatened by some search veterans because I was telling everyone all about it.

I was just curious how widespread this practice was.

In other words, this is not evidence that anyone existed at all, just evidence that there were such stories in about 116.

One can read old texts in which Apollo and Zeus are discussed as existing, too.  They may have as much reality in them as Jesus.

Also, this is not the proper place for this stuff; it belongs in another thread.

Tacitus didn't have to witness anything personally to provide an invaluable piece of evidence: At the beginning of the second century Christ is mentioned by a major Roman historian as being 'the founder' of Christianity and as 'executed in the reign of Tiberius' under Pontius Pilate.

I expect there are not a few skeptics who would be much happier if that passage had never been written, don't you?

Since no one in antiquity - xtian or otherwise - ever makes reference to that passage the odds are that he didn't.

What we do know is that the only manuscript we have initially said "Chrestianos" not "christianos" until helped along by some unknown scribe.  The change is clearly visible under ultraviolet light.

So, given that no xtian writer ever heard of or used this passage and with the obvious alteration it would seem that Tacitus probably wrote something about Chrestus and the Chrestians, which we know about from Suetonius being active in Rome during the reign of Claudius.

Now I know that every xtian fucker jerks off to Tacitus but it is probably worth mentioning that even this interpolated passage does not mention anyone named "jesus."

I bet that won't even slow you down.

I was raised a Catholic and went through grade school and high school in Catholic schools. I saw a lot of abuse dished out and as soon as I was old enough I turned my back on Catholicism, but not God. I loathe the Catholic Church and everything about it.

Any particular denomination? Or more of a "Me, Jesus and my Bible" kinda believer?

Good for you.  It is amazing that people still support that international pedophile ring.  But I hope you will see that they were wrong about more than you recognize at present.  There simply is no good reason to believe in a god of any kind.  It is all lies and bullshit.
