Wrath of God

RE: Wrath of God
I think it's a daft, made up story designed to influence and indoctrinate the gullible, simple and breathtakingly stupid who will immediately jump to all sorts of weird conclusions when something slightly out of the ordinary happens rather than use any form of rational enquiry or intelligence that they may still have to come to a more sensible conclusion.

Acts chapter 5:1-10 Tells the story of Ananias and his wife who were supposed to sell their property and turn over the earnings to Peter but when it came time to do so they secretly kept a portion of the earnings and when Peter revealed their lie they both fell dead at his feet.

The story about the wrath of god fits in the same bullshit category as the biblical one. It is meant to instill irrational fear in the minds of the feeble.

A Glass of the Wrath of God - By Martin Wells Knapp

In one of the silent towns of the West, years ago, there lived an able and faithful minister of the Gospel. There was in his parish at a certain time an unusual interest in religion, and a sermon was preached on the "Wrath of God." It was a very faithful discourse, and deeply affected the congregation. After the sermon an inquiry meeting was held, and many remained. Among the number were two wicked young men, who, from motives of curiosity or mischief, placed themselves among the inquirers. They tried to disturb the meeting and distract the attention of those who were really serious. After the meeting they went to the hotel, and, walking up to the bar, called for something to drink. They were asked what they would have. One of them replied, "Give me a glass of the wrath of God." The bartender turned him out something in the usual way, and he drank it and instantly fell dead upon the floor! A powerful impression was made upon the young men of that place, and the event is remembered there yet with fear and dread.

Oh, gee... a story with no specifics at all. No names. No indication of WHERE this supposedly happened. No date. Impossible to verify. Just a silly story that anyone could have made up.

Sniff... Sniff...

I smell bullshit.

This reminds me of a story someone once sent me in an email. Supposedly, this guy is driving home one night when he gets "a feeling" that should go buy a gallon of milk. He does so, then he gets a "feeling" that he should drive to a particular apartment building and he somehow feels that "something" is directing him to knock on a particular door. He does so and a young woman answers. The guy tells her, "I don't know why, but I have a feeling I'm supposed to give you this." He then hands her the gallon of milk. The woman then explodes into tears and tells the guy that her baby just drank the last of their milk and she has no money to go buy more. She explains that she was distraught and didn't know what to do, so she prayed to God for help. She looks at him with tears streaming down her face and says, "And now you show up with milk for my baby!"

Yeah....

I'm sure this story was supposed to make me feel all weepy while demonstrating the miracles that "God" pulls off every day.

I just read it and felt disgusted. Once again, no names, no indication where this took place, no indication WHEN it took place. Impossible to verify. I have no doubt the story is 100% pure bullshit. But this is the crap that believers will pass around to prove to themselves that their invisible deity exists.

Very true. Not much difference between the milk story and Jesus rising up from the dead. Both are completely unverifiable.

Mmm...let's see. No data, no names, no where, no when and nothing at all to verify. So what do I think of this story? Complete utter bullshit.

Also, god killing people? I thought he was all loving? He'd kill these twats but what about all those other killers and rapists in the world? Why just these two? Makes no sense. Also, sending people to hell for lack of belief. How does this work? Who's harmed by anothers lack of belief?
Also, all loving and yet he's killing and sending people to hell does not equals all loving. It's a contradiction. He's either one or the other. Either he is all loving or he's not. Which one is he?

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

RE: Wrath of God
speaking of BS stories, have you guys heard of the mean atheist professor?

It's a long one, but interesting in the same way this is.

And another email BS fairy tale:

The following is a true story that happened just a few years ago at USC.

STAND UP!!!

There was a professor of philosophy who was a deeply committed atheist. His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester attempting to prove that God couldn’t exist. His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic. For twenty years, he had taught this class and no one had ever had the courage to go against him. Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone against him because of his reputation. At the end of every semester on the last day, he would say to his class of 300 students, "If there is anyone here who still believes in Jesus, stand up!" In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next. He would say, "Because anyone who believes in God is a fool. If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking. Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He can’t do it." And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces. All of the students would do nothing but stop and stare. Most of the students thought that God couldn’t exist. Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but for 20 years, they had been too afraid to stand up.

Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enroll. He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about his professor. He was required to take the class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said, or what the class thought. Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith...he hoped.

Finally, the day came. The professor said, " If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up!" The professor and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom. The professor shouted, "You FOOL!!! If God existed, he would keep this piece of chalk from breaking when it hit the ground!" He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleat of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe. As it hit the ground, it simply rolled away unbroken. The professor’s jaw dropped as he stared at the chalk. He looked up at the young man, and then ran out of the lecture hall. The young man who had stood, proceeded to walk to the front of the room and shared his faith in Jesus for the next half hour. 300 students stayed and listened as he told of God’s love for them and of His power through Jesus.
