American culture seems to be littered with these apocrphal tales to a much greater degree than in England.
This is the impression I get from reading american books and watching films anyway.
Is this a fair assessment, or has my opinion been sqewed by the material I watch/read?
The films I was thinking of were the Blair witch project, the exorcist etc. And the books I have read recently were 'the christmas train' a vapid peice of work with 'folksy American myths' infecting almost every page. I couldnt finish it it was just irritating after a while.
You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

dbp you are correct! American culture is chock full of religious myths and fabricated tales of demon possessions etc. It seems to be a huge fad here and xtians eat it up like candy and the average person loves such stories about hauntings and poltergiest etc.

Just look at the Chick Tracts. Those stories put this one to shame.

Don't get God angry, you wouldn't like him when he is angry. His holy robe might rip off exposing his holy penis and then he will commence to kill you and your entire household.

It's a long one, but interesting in the same way this is.

I've seen a version of this story where the student is Albert Einstein! It seems believers will tell bullshit stories to promote their cause. What a shock...

Hell I've heard one where Darwin converted to Islam on his deathbed.
