What bothers me is their victim-blaming ideas. "Women should wear long skirts and loose blouses and high necklines to avoid tempting men... of COURSE rape happens, because women dress too suggestively!" This is what they've been teaching to four girls who were sexually molested! I remember hearing a quote where Michelle Duggar said that some of the older girls had developed even stricter standards of modesty than their parents. Annnd this is why: because their family's standards weren't enough to protect them.

And am I the only one who thinks that this wouldn't have happened if Josh had gone to public school (aka. was away from his sisters) and allowed to have a girlfriend? I mean, the parents teach that making out with a girlfriend and molesting his sisters are equal sins, and they kept him isolated from girls his age*, so what do they expect?


*I can't prove the isolation part, but it's a tactic that Quiverfull parents almost always use. They keep their children away from any children that aren't a part of the movement - for their childrens' protection and further brainwashing. It's an easy way for the parents to keep their teens from dating, too.

Yep. A judge with serious ties to Mike Huckabee just happened to order the police report be destroyed, meaning that if Josh Duggar ever re-offends it will legally be his first offense.

And really, who wouldn't re-offend, if they've been given absolutely no help to recover, and have been taught that literally everyone with relevant powers will leap to their defense the moment they get caught?

One of the sisters, who is still a minor, asked through her parents that it be destroyed.  According to the police that isn't normally done.  

If you look at the police report, it sounds as if one of the older of his younger sisters was not abused but she stated Joshua made her uncomfortable. That means that the youngest victim would have been ten years younger than Joshua. One sister said that he molested another sister when she fell asleep on his lap.  I imagine that was his youngest victim that sat on his lap and fell asleep.

Yeah, I take that to mean one of two things: either she didn't ask that at all and her parents took the liberty of demanding for her and using her name to get it done, or she was pressured into doing so by her parents. Those two have already shown that, on this issue, their first priority is to defend their molester son and attempt to cover it all up, and their particular sect of christian cult demands total obedience from children, and women especially, to their fathers no matter their age; it would have been the work of but a moment for them to further the agenda of silence they'd been perpetrating for years before getting caught, and pressured that little girl into doing what they wanted and make that report go away.

And, let's face it, even their stricter standards aren't enough to stop other men from being "tempted" by them. One thing to note is that the Duggar daughters seem to prefer wearing flip-flops most of the time, even shrugging off suggestions that they wear less revealing footwear while hiking in South America.

Imagine if Josh had developed a foot fetish at some point while he was screwing around with his younger sisters; they wouldn't be so quick to say "We can do anything in flip-flops," now, would they?

As a foot fetishist myself, I can safely say that the biggest reason the (older) Duggar sisters don't have a significant following in the fetish community is because, well, their strong religious convictions would be an instant buzzkill. Well, that and being overshadowed by Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory.

Moral of the Story: Insistence on standards of modesty are likely to fail because where there's a will, there's a way. If men can find breasts, organs designed only to feed infants who can't eat solid food, erotic, they can find any part of the body erotic.

On to the actual news: well, that was a shock. I can only hope that this means the end of the Duggar family media saga.

That said, it's possible that all of the sisters involved didn't want this to be discussed publicly (I mean, who would?  Underage sexual abuse victims have a right to privacy.  And for a reason:  having one's childhood trauma discussed all over the internet would be painful.  My childhood was probably not as traumatic and I hate for it to be discussed, period.  I can't imagine what this is like for them.)  Anyway, it's possible that the girls themselves wanted the report destroyed. 

Also: they've been pressured to forgive their abuser, because Jesus preached forgiveness.  In these circles, everyone wants to look like a "good Christian."  It's quite possible that the youngest daughter requested this so that she would look like a good Christian. Or, she was manipulated into it with a reminder that you have to forgive your brother to get into Heaven. Remember, the father is the supreme spiritual leader in these families...


The more I think about it, the more I see an underlying theme that the boys are worth more. I always felt that way, growing up in a semi-Quiverfull family (and community) Looks like it's even more so in stricter families.
