I disagree. Yes, more Native Americans died during the colonisation period and there has always been war and bloodshed, but very rarely on the kind of scale and efficiency employed by the Nazis. Their...feverish obsession with exterminating the 'untermensch' reached levels never witnessed before in history, and hopefully never witnessed in the future.

What is horrifying about the Nazi atrocity is the mechanization of the process. If one follows its history, from the Polish ghettos to the gas vans of Chelmno, and culminating in the deadly efficiency of Auschwitz-Birkenau, one can see a drive to make the process businesslike, consistent, and economical.

Right. All trace of humanity was stripped away, all emotion and guilt removed. It was a coldly logical machine driven by unparalleled hatred. It was not the law of the jungle, or survival of the fittest, and anyone who thinks it is can go fuck themselves. It was an aberration - mass fucking murder, dressed up as a business operation.
