I make one exception and one exception only: Dominionists.  These people seek the overthrow of our secular form of a Republic and replacing it with a fascist theocratic Christian state.  I take their threats of killing people who they consider undesirables (anyone who is not just like them: gays, intellectuals, atheists, agnostics, people of non-Christian religions, Christians who are "not Christian enough"). 

These wackadoodles exist. Theocracy Watch I think you overstate their threat, though. They would need to pass a number of constitutional amendments to come close to accomplishing their goals and that simply isn't going to happen. The bar to pass an amendment is high enough that nothing controversial will get through. The biggest thing we have to worry about is some weakening of church-state separation as a result of a Republican President replacing liberal judges with conservative ones.

i tried my best to hold on to hope from spirituality. i went from christian to liberal christian, to buddhist/christian but now at age 26 i can see that it is ALL COMPLETE BULLSHIT. the official ansewr to why god doesnt do anything to help people is becuase of free will, so the only reason people really believe is because they are told to. the only gods in this world are natural selection and evolution. did u know theres NO mention about jesus outside the bible in historical records until 200 years AFTER he died at which point the people writing about him weren't even around when he was supposedly alive? i fucking hate christians they always just give condescending advice and false hopes. they are a cancer to this world and next time i get a missionary knocking on my door i just want to take my shot gun and blow their fucking heads off. why doesn't the government move to outlawing religion because they only make things worse? Just send the national guard and out law all religions and when they want to be martyrs and die for their faith, just shoot them in public and rape the christian girls because i hate how they act all righteous but deep down they are just as shitty as everyone else in this world.

i think as atheists what we need to do is stop laying low and remaining silent, and band together and take a stand. make christians want to kill themselves, or leave the country. and dont even get me started on christians in america who think they are being persecuted, they wouldn't last 5 seconds in the middle east. we need to start showing them what real persecution is, and see which of them actually have the balls to stand behind what they believe when they have a gun to their heads.

this would be an interesting experiment because i wonder after every theist on the world dies, and only atheists have children, could new religions and gods be formed in the future? or would science and reason rule forever onward? im thinking maybe if people lied and still believed in god but said they didn't so they could live as parasites. but i wonder if making up god is a natural way to cope, since there's so many religions spread around the world, maybe people instinctively seek a higher power when they feel scared. do you think animals look to a higher power when they are scared?

I think religion is stupid and people that believe in it have some stupidity in them. However, I actually have family that I care a great deal about that are in fact Christians.

With that said, if you are serious about doing such evil deeds to them my suggestion is that you leave here and find a hate group to fester in.

Religion isn't gonna die out in humans, dogs think their master is The Higher Power, and I don't like the idea of experiments which would kill billions of folk.

Welcome aboard, I'm glad you've calmed down. I share your frustration and loathing towards the harm religion is doing, and I want to see that harm totally stopped. Violence is certainly not the solution, spreading critical thinking and education will be far more effective and humane. It's already happening, each new generation is getting less and less religious it seems. The atheist numbers are growing, and that's just for those who openly identify as atheist. It doesn't count all those "just agnostic" people who don't know what atheist actually means, or don't feel comfortable with the label.

We're each doing what we can, we're hearing supporting fellow atheists and trying to spread the message. Theists often connect atheism to fascist dictators without any help; let's not give them a real reason to do so.

I used to be a Christian and would visit religious forums. Occasionally, I would come across an atheist poster and my responses to them probably made it appear that I never read what they wrote, but I did. When I started doubting my faith, some of those answers came back to me and helped me in my deconversion process.

Why did I believe? I would imagine coming from an abusive home where I had to obey without question made me more likely to be attracted to a religion with a control freak for a deity. All my life I had been told, I was dumb, ugly or stupid and that is how I viewed myself. It made me feel good that some god bigger than myself loved me even if I had to give up who I was for that love. Other religious people believe because they too have some sort of vulnerability or weakness that religion sooths. Instead of hating them, why not pity them?
