Everything about getting old is great except for the body parts that work less well and hurt more. Can't beat the perspective and the bank account has had time to grow. If that doesn't cheer you up, compare adding another year to the only viable alternative.

Yeah, getting older means living longer, and I'm good with that. But now and then I'll hear some 40-something who gets in shape and says "I fell better than I did when I was in my 20s!" And I'm thinking that when I was in my 20s, my joints didn't make all of those funny noises when I got out of bed, or bent over, or crouched, or... ugh, how do I get out of this crouch again?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

FWIW I thought most of you in this thread were younger than stated....

Fuck. I can't even remember turning 50.
Which is one of the reasons to avoid it!
I'll hit 50 in 1 1/2 years. I'm not worried about it.
Happy birthday, Rhonda.
I wish you a wonderful time!
I'm approaching 40 now, and I've long since stopped caring about age. When I was young, even 20 seemed like an impossibly ancient age that I would never reach. Feel free to send me a private message.

I'll be 30 next Monday. I have zero feelings about getting old. Except I am considering having to purchase Rogaine. It's getting thin up top.... I'll get that shit on Amazon so no one knows...
Happy Birthday Rhonda!!! Were you born on July 4th?
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
